The surroundings of Alhóndiga Bilbao

Philippe STARCK was commissioned to givelife to what could be best described as therenaissance of the Alhóndiga, converting itinto a cultural and sports centre, library,cinema and media centre.

The exterior of the building consists of modernand elegant urban equipment, the design ofwhich was also entrusted to the Starck studio.

On a floor surface which suggests a Frenchcarpet, Philippe STARCK designed urbanfurnishings whose manufacture was assignedto the ONN Outside firm from Bizkaia.

Such products as benches, chairs, and achess table, give a welcoming, almost cosyatmosphere which invites one to enjoy thesurroundings of this emblematic buildingof Bilbao.

Arriquibar Square, found at the main entranceto the Alhóndiga, has been transformed intoa garden with singularly unusual items likeGame 12 and 16, which evoke a sort ofabstract confessional and a corner wherelovers can hide from the unwelcome eyesof strangers.

Walking around the building, we find otheroutstanding items like Game 5 and 18,balcony and walkway, respectively.
