RECOMMIISIONING OF
EXTRAORDINARY
MINISTERS OF HOLY
COMMUNION WHO
HAVE NOT DONE SO
THIS YEAR.
Sunday, 23rd July
St John Bosco Parish is a vibrant and worshipping community in the heart of Woodley. We are
committed to serve, to grow, to connect and to give.
The Roman Catholic Parish of
23rd July 2017 - 16th Sunday of Ordinary Time - Issue 1182
A NEW ERA
This is a new era, a new beginning for this great parish, for the new priests arriving and for the parting priest as well. We are to ask the Holy Spirit to come and "help us in our weakness", so that we may see and seize the opportunities which God is offering us at this moment. It is a new era for Fathers Raffaele and Luca. Fr. Raffaele is bringing a wealth of experience from Lisbon and other places where he has worked. Fr. Luca is bringing his own bag of experiences from Rome where he has been working until his appointment to St. John Bosco. These two are bringing the wealth of cultures of Lisbon/Portugal and Rome/Italy to enrich our parish community. All we need is to welcome them with open hearts, arms and homes, and to give them every opportunity to unleash these experiences for the good and growth of our parish. It is a new era for Fr. Bonaventure as well. He returns to take up a new ap-pointment as Archbishop's Secretary in Bamenda, Cameroon - his home diocese. This is a new opportunity which he is called upon to seize. He will take with him the experiences he has gained in Woodley/Reading, and the wealth of the English culture which he has assimilated consciously or unconsciously over the past six years. With new opportunities come new challenges. The two new priests will only slowly learn the English culture. On their part, the parishioners will slowly shift from hearing an African accent to an Italian one! Some things will change while others will remain the same. The important thing is that everybody needs to be sowing good seeds: under-standing, patience, perseverance, love, encouragement and loyalty. There is no room for any bad seed to be sown in this community either before or when our new priests come. And, because we all are weak and prone to evil, St. Paul's words are very timely this weekend. "The Spirit comes to help us in our weakness." May that same Holy Spirit help us to pave the way for a smooth transition in our parish.
