Dependingon themodel year and variant, certainKiamodelsare fittedwith a Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC)system,aDualAutomaticTemperatureControl(DATC)systemor aManualTemperatureControl system. In this first of twoarticles, wewilldiscussafewdiagnostictipsforworkingontheManualTemperatureControlsystems.

One challenge that Kia technicians face is how to approachdiagnosis,sincethistypeofsystemdoesnothavetheabilitytocommunicateandprovidediagnosticdatatoKDS/GDS.

ThemostimportantfactortoconsiderwhenworkingonManualTemperatureControlsystems is that there isnoDTCorDataAnalysisinformationavailableviatheAIRCONsysteminKDSandGDS(seeFig.2,below).ThisisdespitethefactthattheManualClimate Control Panel communicates with other modules onC-CAN.

The good news is that certain Manual Temperature Controldiagnostic informationcanbeaccessedbyselecting thePCM/ECMmodule. The PCM/ECMmonitors and/or controls certaincomponentssuchas:

•A/Ccompressor•A/Cpressureswitch(alsoknownasthe“PressureTransducer”)•OtherClimatecontrolSystemrelatedparameters(variesbymodel)

Diagnosis of these parameters begins by selecting the ECM/PCMmodule and continuing to “DATAANALYSIS.” Once in theDataAnalysismainscreen,usethe“GROUP”featuretoselectallavailableA/Csystemparameters(seeFig.3below).
