NEWS: RMTRECOGNITION WON!When we first started the campaign for RMT recognition, weonly had automatic recognition at Glasgow Central. This wasfollowed by winning recognition at Edinburgh Waverley andLiverpool Lime Street. Now the figures have confirmed the RMThas passed the threshold to win recognition at Leeds CityStation! These are the locations that we can formally negotiate for, butour public campaign is for the Real #LivingWageNOW to applyto ALL RMT members across the contract. Make sure yourlocation isn’t left behind and get your workmates on board withRMT now. We still need more of your colleagues to join us at all locationsbecause we have strength in numbers, but it is particularlyimportant we pass the thresholds at Manchester Piccadilly andBirmingham New Street and gain full recognition for thesestations. Play your part and persuade a colleague to sign up toRMT today!

NEWS: PAY TALKSPLANNED!RMT will be meeting with Mitie to discuss pay - and winningand implementing at least the #RealLivingWageNow for allworkers on the contract. The meeting is in Edinburgh onWednesday 16th October 2019 and we will keep you advised ofall developments!

NEWS: MORE PEOPLESIGN UP TO THECAMPAIGN!Working with 38 Degrees, RMT launched an online petitioncalling on Mitie and Network Rail to pay AT LEAST the real#LivingWageNOW to cleaners on the Managed Stationscontract. At the last count, over 82,000 people had signed thepetition calling for this positive change. The on-line petitionattracts more signatures daily! Our next leafleting sessions willencourage more passengers to sign up and directly emailNetwork Rail and Mitie bosses over the issue.

LOBBYING FOR AN ENDTO POVERTY PAYCouncil bosses are supporting the campaign for AT LEAST theReal #LivingWage to apply to cleaners on the Mitie NetworkRail Managed Stations Contract. Steve Rotherham, the MetroMayor of Merseyside, is supporting the campaign along withAndy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester. They havenow been followed by their Labour colleague Councillor IanWard, Leader of Birmingham City Council. In Scotland, supporters of the #LivingWageCampaign includeFirst Minister Nicola Sturgeon of the SNP and Labour’s ElaineSmith MSP who has put a motion down supporting the RMTcampaign in the Scottish Parliament. The motion continuesto attract more signatures from other MSPs. If you live in Scotland, please ask your MSP to sign S5M-18580.

PRESSURE ATWESTMINSTER!An Early Day Motion was put down in the WestminsterParliament by Labour MP Ian Mearns, convenor of the RMTParliamentary Group. The motion is heaping more pressure onMitie and Network Rail to pay AT LEAST the Real#LivingWageNow to Mitie cleaners on the Network RailManaged Stations Contract. Now that Boris’s attempt to shut down Parliament early hasfailed, MPs are back and able to continue signing the EDMdemanding Network Rail and Mitie address this issue. HOUSE OF COMMONSEDM #2686

“That the Parliament commends the action of the RMTunion for their campaigning events and for highlighting theneed for a living wage for Mitie cleaners on Network Rail-managed stations; understands that, in a survey of Mitieemployees, 50% of respondents said that they struggled tomake ends meet; agrees that these essential rail workersshould not have to survive on poverty pay while, it believes,the Mitie Group's shareholders have received nearly £49million in dividends in the last five years, and hopes thatthis action results in justice for Mitie employees”

"“That this House commends the action of RMT membersemployed by Mitie Group plc who clean Network Railstations at Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Central, LiverpoolLime Street, Manchester Piccadilly, Leeds City andBirmingham New Street stations, and who are fighting for aReal Living Wage as determined by the Living WageFoundation; notes with concern that Mitie refuses to pay theReal Living Wage, that its employees reported to an RMTsurvey that around half of them struggled to make endsmeet; further notes and that notwithstanding this, thecompany has passed on £49 million in dividends to itsshareholders in the last five years; believes that Mitieshould agree to pay the Real Living Wage to its cleaningstaff; and further believes that Network Rail and all whosub-contract work on the UK railway network should pay atleast the Real Living Wage throughout their supply chains”
