The suspense of the baby con-test has ended at last, and weare all smiles over the results.We take this opportunity to thankall participants and especially theparents and friends for theirsplendid cooperation.

All of the babies made a goodshowing, however, there weresome that excelled others. Thewinner of the contest was BrendaRivers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Frank T. Rivers. The Ist prizewas a gold ring donated by Marty

On Tuesday evening districtdeputy Johnny Hill and statedeputy Thomas Rolle along withMost Ancient Matron Mary Dorisand Most Ancient Matron MaryDean, organized GethsemaneCourt Heroines of Jericho. Thespiritual fervor ran high as Dep-uty Rolle prayed and the mem-bers sang “Jesus Keep Me NearThe Cross.”

Mr. Barney Jackson, Mr. WillieWilliams and Mr. Harold Franciswere installed as Court Directors.Lectures in the work of a Hero-ines were given by Sister MaryDean, Sister Mary Davis andDeputy Johnny Hill.

The name of the court wasgiven by Miss Marie White aftera great prayer meeting was heldand men and women stood upand acknowledged Christ as theirsaviour. The number of the court338 was given by Grand Vener-able Patron whose orders it wasthat Deputies Hill and Rolle setup the court of Gethsemane.

Mrs. Jean Capers, city coun-cilman of ward 11, Cleveland, O.and Mrs. Eleanore Marr, of Chi-cago were the guests of Rev. andMrs. J. E. Coleman, Tuesday. .

Mrs. Capers and Mrs. Marr,came to Florida to attend theNational Woman’s Council atDaytona Beach and decided tovisit Miami and Cuba before re-turning home. They are stoppingat the Lord Calvert hotel.

Our principal celebrated herbirthday on April 4. To her sur-prise, the faculty had planned adelicious luncheon in her honor.The menu consisted of smotheredsteak, creamed potatoes, greenpeas, orange juice, salad and hotrolls. The dessert was pie-a-la-mode.

The tables and chairs were ar-tistically placed and the tableswere decorated with beautifulflowers and gifts presented by

the faculty. Our principal is stillraving about the swell time shehad on her birthday.

PROF. DOBBSFETED ONBIRTHDAY

On Tuesday the student bodyof Dorsey high k:hool gave a sur-prise shower of birthday gifts totheir principal. Mr. Dobbs, whowas attending a meeting Tuesdaymorning was summoned to re-turn to school as quickly as pos-sible. When he arrived, he wasgreeted with shouts of “HappyBirthday” by the faculty andstudent body who had alreadyassembled in the patio.

As everyone sang Happy Birth-day accompanied by the band,placards were displayed with themessage, “Happy Birthday, Mr.Dobbs.” Mrs. A. E. McNeal thengave the occasion, followed bygreetings from Student Councilpresident, Roscoe Matchett. Eachgrade group then had a repre-sentative present its gift to Mr.Dobbs. A beautifully deconatedcake was given by the Home Ec-onomics Department as well asflowers from the faculty and agift from the cafeteria staff.

Mr. Dobbs was so completelyoverwhelmed that several minutespassed before he could recoverhimself. However, in a touchingresponse, he told the assemblyhow deeply moved he was overthe expressions of gratitude andlove which were shown.
