“GOOD MORNING FAMILY” …..thoughts from DAVID
THE CHURCH WINDOW PAGE 2
Two deacons cut church to go fishing one Sunday. About noon the guilt began to sink in. One commented, "I guess we should have gone to church this morning." He companion replied lazily, "Oh no, I couldn't have gone. My wife is home sick in bed." Excuses. We've all heard them. When it comes to church attendance, I've heard them all. There's the "I stayed out too late last night (Saturday) and I was too tired to go to church" excuse. And then there's the "we had company" excuse. Personally, my favorite is the "we had some things we had to get done and since we didn't have time during the week because of our jobs to do them, we decided to do them on Sunday" excuse. Excuses. We've all given them (at one time or another). I ought to know about excuses because I'm the King of Excuses. It's very easy for me to absolve myself from responsibility and blame the traffic, the alarm clock, my schedule, my wife and kids, or someone/something else. But, in reality, I know deep inside that I am responsible for me. I have no one to blame but myself when I don't do what I should do or do what I shouldn't. Let's face the fact. The excuses that we use for missing worship services or not doing what we should as a Christian wouldn't go over very well if we tried to use them at work or school, would they? Our employers and teachers expect a lot out of us. How can we give any less to God? If WE know that our excuses are really hollow attempts to justify our actions, and if we know that OTHERS can see through these attempts to justify our actions, then we know that GOD, who knows our thoughts even before we think them, sees through them, also. My intentions are to never make you feel guilty. That's not my job. My job is to help you become the best family members. My job (and my intentions) are to encourage you and to challenge you to live faithfully for God. Only God knows your heart, but everyone sees your actions. If our actions don't match what we profess, then something is out of whack. I know that church attendance is not everything there is to the Christian life, but it IS an important part of the Christian life. Coming to church is not all about us. It is about God. It is about God's people. Let's stop making excuses and make what God wants a priority. See you in worship.
Keep Looking Up!
