MADu AWAnThI Mano Ratnayake stands out as a man of his word, if the recentsurge in popularity of the Walauwa, in Melbourne, Australia, isanything to go by.

Trevine Rodrigo, of the Lanka Times Melbourne, checked out therecent scene at the Walauwa and sent us this report:

The Walauwa is making vast strides in its hospitality business, moredue to its clever innovative methods and Mano’s promise that they willalways strive to capture the guest’s imagination.

“Our success has been teamwork and a commitmentto ensure we deliver ourplans at every function. For that, I have to admitthat without my co-own-ers, Directors, NashSamarakoon andShehan Wijewardena, and the rest of our dedi-cated staff, this would notbe possible,” said Mano.

Competition is tight inMelbourne’s South-Eastern suburbs, with somany multi-cultural culi-nary venues, so theWalauwa’s entry, and cur-rent upsurge, must becommended in the face ofsuch a challenge.

Their newest introduc-tion is ‘Singing Chef,’ DonSherman, a popular youngChef from Sri Lanka, whodoes what very few can do

ANTI-AGEING

remedies

in this profession. He had a packedlunch crowd, at the Walauwa, in awe athis uncanny ability to make cooking anentertainment rather than a chore.

To the beat of some catchy tunes(some of his very own recorded compo-sitions), the unusually talented DonSherman performed an extraordinarytheatrical version of his very own“Chicken Fried Rice” and ‘Ice CreamKotthu’ which had his audience dum-founded. I would say he has to rateamong the best celebrity chefs, inAustralia, after that masterful perform-ance.

Don Sherman has introduced a newdimension to cooking and with his back-ground, as a lively entertainer, rapperand writer of musical lyrics, to comple-ment his cooking masterpieces, it givesthe Walauwa the ‘Wow factor’ that otherestablishments will find hard to competewith.

He does a regular gig on Friday

nights - his live performances showcas-ing his talents, outside the kitchen.

Another exciting addition, to thevenue, is the soon-to-be-launchedWADIYA, built around a popular SriLankan concept of a seafood and cock-tail lounge for those tired workers, whocan drop in for a quick tipple, and a biteof exclusive Sri Lankan-style seafood, while heading home after a long day atthe office.

The Walauwa has drawn some ofthe best entertainers, from Sri Lanka, providing music at a premium to backits quality service.

Some of the stars who haveappeared there include the legendaryDesmond De Silva, Dalreen Suby,Manilal Perera, Victor Ratnayake, andthe fabulous Replay 6, with Esric andSandra.

There appears to be never a dullmoment at the Walauwa these days.
