Term 2 Week 4 18th May 2020
Remote Learning Stars
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Phase 1 Return to school
Last week we commenced Phase 1 with all students across NSW expected to attend school one day per week. This allows for students to have the important face to face contact with their class teachers that primary students really need. Notice about changes and increase in days will be sent as soon as we are officially advised by Department of Education (DoE).
Schools are Clean and Safe Places
In response to the current situation the school
has sourced additional hygiene supplies, with
hand sanitiser in every classroom, and
implemented new safety protocols. The school
has also been allocated enhanced cleaning
services with all high touch surfaces and play
equipment being disinfected daily. Parents
would have been informed that social
distancing does not apply in classrooms
although the school is maintaining smaller
class sizes with students spaced in rooms
during Phase 1, as per the DoE guidelines.
Students are being instructed daily on correct
hand washing and safe distancing.
All students who is sick should stay at home
and not come to school. Students who display
any cold or flu like symptoms will be sent
home immediately. Students in class are not
to share personal items such as pens and
pencils or resources and have all been
supplied with an individual zip lock bag and
tray of classroom essentials.
Drop off and Pick up
Parents are advised that due to the NSW
Department of Education guidelines and NSW
Health, visitors to school grounds are
restricted. Parents and carers are asked to
drop off their children at the front of school
each morning and not to enter the school
grounds.
In the afternoon’s parents are asked to wait
outside the school and students will exit
through the bus stop gate. Teachers are on
duty to help supervise their dismissal.
On another note children should not arrive
before 8:30 am, unless arriving on bus or an
arrangement has been made with the
Principal due to extenuating circumstances.
Building Upgrades
Some new improvements have taken place in
our school while most of our students have
been learning from home. In the playground
we have a new mini basketball court on the
edge of oval, our mini-golf course is carpeted
and a 6th hole has been built.
Our classrooms have had air-conditioners
installed to keep us warmer in winter and cool
in summer. They will also consume the solar
power we produce from our 15KW solar
panels and remove the need for gas heating.
Construction of our new ‘outdoor nature play’
and ‘sensory garden’ area should commence
this week and be finished by the time our
students return to school full time.
Learning packs and remote learning
Our teachers have produced learning packs
around a single unit of work for every child in
our school. Teachers have been evaluating
submitted student work but will not be
returning the marked work now students are
coming to school. Feedback will be provided
in person to each child.
Newling will still be producing mid-year reports and student remote learning work samples will provide valuable assessment
material to add to the work done during their face to face time with their teachers this year. Students must show they are engaging with learning from home by submitting work and/or communicating with their teacher.
Communication Reminder
If you need to contact the school please do so
via class mobile phone or Seesaw app.
Parent visits to the office should be limited to
payments, appointments or picking up sick
children. The class mobile phones will remain
in place giving you direct communication with
class teachers during school hours.
Awards
Star Awards can still be achieved by students
however the Star Room is not operating at
present. Our Awards Assembly for this term
will not proceed until we are permitted to have
large whole school assemblies and visitors at
school again.
2020 Major Excursions
Major excursion payments are still being
accepted. At this stage we are unable to
confirm if they will continue however should
the excursions need to be cancelled all
monies paid will be refunded.
School Photos
Our school photos will be scheduled to a new
date when all students return.
