TEACCH Work Tasks

Many of these activities were designed

primarily to teach the student how to

work using a left to right work system

and the concept of “finished.” The work

tasks were designed after assessment of

each child’s emerging skills and level of

interest in the material.

Skill: Simple puzzle, matching

Structure: Top to bottom; left to right

Skill: Color matching

Skill: 1:1 correspondence for the numbers 1-3

Structure: Top to bottom; left to right; marker is put back in the bag and placed in the tray for “finished”

Skill: Seriation

Structure: Top to bottom; left to right

Skill: Matching complex pictures

Structure: Preferred materials; top to bottom; left to right; picture cards are in the left to right order to begin this task, may mix them up at a later time to make the task more difficult

Skill: Individual schedule at the written level. The student Velcros a.m. activities/schedule in the front of notebook; p.m. is on the inside back cover. When each class is finished, the student pulls the corresponding word(s) off his schedule and puts it in the finished pocket (back to front)

Structure: For each subject there is a matching (color coded) folder. All of the work the student is to complete that day is in the front of each folder. As the work is completed, it is put in “finished” which is labeled on the back of each folder. All work not completed when class is over is put in the front of the homework folder. As each page of homework is completed, it is also put in “finished” which is labeled on the back of the homework folder.

Structure: Set up like a disappearing put in; hammer then goes in basket when all the pegs are gone

Structure: Left to right before presented to the student all or part of the letters are on Velcro to the left of the base of the puzzle; the number of letters on the left will depend on the skill level of the student.
