Pastor’s View ...
Did you know that Malachi was written because there was a breakdown in the relationship between the Lord and His people? Worship had been abandoned. Everyone looked out for his/herself. The people of God really deserved punishment but, instead, God revealed His heart. “Come back,” He says, “Return to me.” And do you know how the Lord recommended they do this? By giving.
You see, miserly giving is an indication of a breakdown of one’s relationship to God. The prophet Amos called attention to the fact that the people who were supposed to be God’s own people were sending their tithes to false idols. These false gods held out the offer of prosperity and pleasure. Money which was to be given back to God was instead routed to another area for the purpose of personal gain.
Much like the parable of the ten apples… Once there was a man to whom God had given ten apples. God did this because He loved the man. Three of the apples were to be used for food. Another three were to be traded for clothing and shelter. Another three were to be used for transpor-tation and other amenities. God gave the man the tenth apple so that he would: 1) have a concrete way of expressing his gratitude back to God, and 2) have a share in the on-going ministry of Jesus.
The man took the apples and used them as God intended. He used three to feed him and his family. He used another three for clothing and shelter. Another three were traded for transportation and amenities. That left one apple. The man was about to give it back to God, but then noticed that the apple looked to be the biggest and juiciest apple of all. It was difficult to give back. Surely, he reasoned, God would want him to enjoy this apple as well. So, the man took the apple and ate it, and then he gave the core back to God.
So, how does your giving reflect your relationship to the Lord? Does God get your best gift? Or does God get the core? Malachi gives us all a way back to a greater intimacy with the Lord.

International Missions Emphasis in December: Focal Scripture is Acts 1:8. If you are a follower of Jesus, you are part of the task to fulfill the Great Commission. Paul says, “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). Jesus has commissioned us to be His Heart, His Hands, His Voice through Praying, Giving and Going! Southern Baptists have fulfilled this legacy for more than 160 years. Let us, each one, be a part of sharing Christ with our LOST and DYING world! OVBC’s goal for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is $15,000. Please be in prayer for how you may participate in this effort!

Highlights are… making “rounds” at the Nalerigu Hospital, meeting with WMU leaders from 5 West African countries, worshipping in a small Fulani church, and being surrounded by GAs in Ghana! Childcare is provided during all services for babies through 5 year olds. The new system, Xtra, uses the Promiseland Bible story of the day and reinforces it with activities and games using the central theme. In this way, your child will be learning the same ideas about God whether he/she is there for one hour or an extended part of the morning. All of this learning at any hour is interspersed with age-appropriate play, music, and more.
