As we count down to the end of another year, we may have cause to reflect on the kind of year it has been. For some it may have been a year of great accomplishment, joy, celebration and even prosperity. For others it may have been a year filled with personal defeats, sadness, loss, and hurt. Whatever the year brought to us individually, we would do well to reflect further on how we handled what came our way. Did we handle the victories as well as the defeats with grace and dignity, or did it cause us to become self-centered or even embi3ered.

However we categorize 2012, it will soon be gone and a fresh new year will dawn. Each of us will be given a fresh page in our book and clean canvass to paint new images for the future days of our lives. If we dwell on the negative things in our past we may miss the opportunity to have a truly blessed and prosperous new year. As with all the previous years of our lives, many things will be out of our control but they will not be out of God’s control. Trusting Him to guide us and knowing that God is at work in our lives can help us be victorious.

This year has been a particularly challenging year in the life of our church. It has not been the only difficult year we have seen, but it has been painful for so many of our church family. But just as it is with the challeng-es we have in our personal lives, we must move forward. We must put those things behind us. Forgive and hopefully be forgiven and move forward in building the Kingdom of God right where we are.

I am trusting God to do great things in 2013 at Ocean View, and I am sure God will see us through.

— Jerry

Sacred Christmas carols are a cherished tradition. But during

sorrow and struggle, some lyrics may seem hard to swallow. “O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant”? Where is the joy when my loved one has just died? Where is the triumph if I’ve lost my job? “Silent night, holy night, all is calm …”? Not in my house; I’m exhausted from the fighting.

Yet … listen:

And you beneath life’s crushing load, Whose forms are bending low … Oh, rest beside the weary road And hear the angels sing. —“It Came Upon the Midnight Clear”

Truly, God reaches out to the happy and hurting alike. “The hopes and fears of all the years are met”—and gathered up—in the Babe of Bethlehem, who shares our joys and troubles. There are Christmas carols for us all. — taken from The Newsleer Newsleer, Volume 34, Number 12.
