Modern Concept/ Vintage Adaptation

• Steam punk is a VERY new art form with a vintage feel and concept.

• It is usually 3 dimensional in nature (What does 3- dimensional mean?) and created from everyday things that come from mechanical or iron functional objects.

• Can you think of some objects that could be considered mechanical that could be used in your project?

• In your own words, what is the definition of functional?

• When we create our own pieces, they will be inspired by this art movement and have the same look.

• However, our goal is to achieve this style by using bottles and jars along with the objects we have on hand.

• Your challenge has been presented!

Aspects of steam punk design emphasize a balance between the form and function. These sculptures are often huge and have moving parts. Many light up or play music!• Example objects include : jars, lamps,

computer keyboards, engines, clocks and electric guitars.

• The goal of such redesign is to employ appropriate materials (such as polished brass, iron, wood, and glass) with design elements and found objects.

• What do I mean by found objects in Art?

• From October 2009 through February 2010, the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford hosted the first major exhibition of steampunk art objects

• by Art Donovan ( from the You Tube clip).

• From redesigned practical items to fantastical contraptions, this exhibition showcased the work of eighteen steampunk artists from across the globe. The exhibition proved to be the most successful and highly attended in the museum's history and attracted more than eighty thousand visitors.
