Mission Statement St. Vincent de Paul is a faith community striving to live Jesus’ gospel message of love, peace and justice for all peoples. In the spirit
of St. Vincent de Paul, our inclusive community welcomes, affirms and serves both the poorest of the poor and those who are alienated and most vulnerable among us. Our individual faith journeys join together in the celebration of the Eucharist. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will continue to nurture the gifts of all our members. Our parish family will draw strength and unity from diversity. We will foster an atmosphere of warmth, hospitality and prayerfulness. We pray that our commitment to these efforts
will further the mission of being one with our God and one with each other. The DePaul Catholic School, An Independent Mission School

ANNOUNCEMENTS - December 23-29, 2018
Secure Communities and the ICE holds program are failed policies. ICE holds have been repeatedly found to be unconstitutional, and to be a driving force behind the breakdown in trust between immigrant residents and local government. Communities organized to fight these policies across the country, and they succeeded. To go back and repeat these destructive policies only opens up possibilities for more abuses against our communities while avoiding the deeper causes of violence, as well as leaving our city vulnerable to lawsuits for violations of people’s rights. We need policies that reflect our values as a society, that honor our community’s dignity, that respects the diversity of our lives and are grounded in the belief of redemption.
The tragedy of Kathryn Steinle’s death should not be manipulated by those who see this as an opportunity to push a political agenda. Creating safer communities is a goal shared across the divisions some seek to exploit. PFUN will continue to push for meaningful reform and dialogue toward this end.
The Philadelphia Family Unity Network (PFUN) is a grassroots coalition that ended all ICE holds in Philadelphia in April 2014. PFUN is 1 Love Movement, Juntos, New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition, and Victim/Witness Services of South Philadelphia.

GIVING TREE Our Social Ministries depend on your generosity to help make Christmas brighter for their clients/guests. Thank you for your gracious generosity during this Advent season. Ministries represented: Inn Dwelling, Face to Face, My Place Germantown, Par Recycle Works, & DePaul Catholic School.
POWER UPDATEThank you & Merry Christmas! In this season of celebrating the amazing gift of God becoming “one of us,” what better time to thank you for “incarnating” God’s love in all you in our parish, the Germantown community and beyond! We weren’t there to open our doors to Mary and Joseph as they searched for a place for Jesus to be born, but we ARE here to work and pray for policies that make our Germantown neighborhood-and our city and state-more framily-friendly places! Thanks be to God!
If you’d like to participate in our POWER-St Vincent’s effort to reach out to other Germantown congregations, please come to our Germantown Interfaith Voter Engagement meeting on Sat Dec 29, 10am to 12 noon at Faith Chapel, 108 E Price St (directly across the street from our rectory). We’re building on the connections we made during election season, with other congregations and local voters. We’re considering forming a partnership to keep local legislators accountable to serving the Germantown community year-round—not only when they’re asking for our votes. RSVP to Terri Burgin (215-651-0100) or Mary Laver (610-324-9388), so we can brief you in case of any weather-delay—or to get a ride!
Save the date: Mon Jan 21, 2019, 1 to 3 PM (location TBD): City-wide MLK Day event recommitting ourselves to working for just public policies! Sponsored by POWER and ally-organizations. Watch upcoming bulletins for details.
INTERFAITH COMMUNITY BUILDING GROUP A group from St Vincent de Paul Church and Mishkon Shalom Synagogue is going to San Juan, Puerto Rico from February 14-21, 2019 to help rebuild three houses. If you have any interest, call or email Joe Clay at 215-266-7256 or jvfc3@msn.com for additional information.

PETITIONS for the Fourth Sunday of Advent
December 22-23, 2018
Note: Add "Let us pray to the Lord" after each petition at the 11:00 a.m. Mass
For the Christian people, that the members of Christ's Body attain spiritual maturity, valuing godliness more than worldly success and the accumulating of wealth.
For the sheep of Christ's fold, that they would be safe and secure in God's hands in this time of deception and confusion when it is easy to lose one's way.
For the world, that, like Mary, followers of Christ reach out beyond home and its security to serve those in need.
For Christians, Jews, and Muslims: that God's spirit will open new pathways of peace and bring forth new hope for ail who live in fear.
For those who have experienced abuse, that God heal their wounds and memories, free them from fear and bring them to an awareness of their dignity.

'My 'Srotfiers ancf Sisters,
Here are some of the projects your generosity helped to fund last year:
• Your generosity helped build a church in a new Vin-centian Mission in Benin. Through you, "His Love endures forever".
• Your generosity also helped to supply furnishings for a the seminary in Chad. Yes. Yes. Yes. "His Love endures forever". Thank you for responding so generously to God's call.
• A home for a poor Christian family was built in Tunisia. Through you, "His Love endures forever".
• You helped to renovate and furnish a Catholic student center in Mekele, Ethiopia. Again through you, "His Love endures forever".
• Your great generosity helped to supply forty-five computers for use by the poor who can not afford computers in Nigeria, Rwanda and Burundi. Because of your response to God's call, "His Love endures forever".
• You helped purchase a truck for a farming project to help the needy in Mozambique. Through you, "His Love endures forever".
• Several years ago a van carrying Vincentian seminarians in Ni
geria was in a tragic accident in which six young and promising
seminarians lost their lives. Would you help supply a new van for
Nigerian seminarians to travel to and from classroom and to their
pastoral work?. We are being asked to help purchase this van. Our
cost: $10,000.
• In Cameroon, we have been asked if we could help a Vincentian
seminary become energy efficient with the purchase and installa
tion of solar panels. Our cost: $5,900.
• In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we have been
asked to help our Vincentian missionaries start a computer train
ing center in the town of Mbandaka to help teachers in the local
schools, and students and their parents, become computer literate.
Our cost: $8,000.
• In Eritrea, the Vincentian priests, brothers and seminarians along
with the Daughters of Charity seek to evangelize by giving popular
missions to bring people to Christ and to the Church. We have been
asked to fund this work that St. Vincent did. Our cost: $8,000.
• In Tanzania, our Vincentian missionaries ask that we help them
with education of poor peasant children by supplying equipment for
a much needed computer lab. This will foster self-sufficiency among
the people. Our cost: $ 10,000.
• In Nigeria, additions and renovations must be made on the semi
nary where Vincentian seminarians study and live. We have been asked
to help them with these repairs and renovations. Our cost: $9,000.
Your brother in Christ, Fr. Sy Peterka, CM.
So,once again I am asking thatyou prayerfully consider helpingto bring hopeandGod'slovetothepoorin Africa. Here are some of the many projects that we were
asked to help fund:
Psalm 136 begins: "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love enduresforever". This is so true, thanks to your
generous response to help the poorest of the poor
in Jesus' name. Through your generosity last year, so
many were able to "Give thanks to the Lord".
