How did St. Patrick’s Day originate?

• It is sometimes said that St. Patrick's Day is celebrated because it is the day that the patron saint of Ireland, Patrick, drove the serpents from Ireland.More traditionally, the date is when St. Patrick died. St. Patrick died on 17 March 461 AD. and has been celebrated ever since.St. Paddy is celebrated because St. Patrick spent thirty years building and setting up monasteries and places of worship all around Ireland. As anyone who has been to Ireland will know, religion is a big part of being Irish.

St. Patrick's Day in America

• In America we celebrate by wearing green.• It is also a day when all the adults have a

reason to go and party and drink until they are sick.
