Tense Changes When Using Reported Speech

Normally, the tense in reported speech is one tense back in time from the tense in direct

speech:

PRESENT TENSE

Simple present(verb)------------------------------------------------------Simple past(verb)

"I always drink coffee", she said. She said that she always drank coffee.

1. “I work on time”, she said.

Present perfect (has/have + verb) ---------------------------------Past perfect (had + verb)

"I have done my work", he told me. He told me that he had done his work.
