CIICII--JUNE 20136SME MIRROR NEWSLETTER
Indian MSME sector has played a pivotal role as an engine of economic growth, manufacturing output, exports
and job Creation. It comprises 90 Per cent of business Units, contributes 45 per cent of manufacturing output, 40
Per cent of Exports and employs 26 million people. What's more, it has been able to maintain this level even in
face of global economic slowdown.
Access to Finance, Requisite Technology Up-gradation and lack of branding are some of the challenges MSMEs
continue to grapple with. A thriving and sustainable MSME Sector calls for an integrated vision and execution by
Policy Makers, Government Agencies, Association of Big Companies and striving engagement of the MSME
community at large. It is when all stakeholders come together that the MSME sector can be catapulted to the
next level of development. Indeed the progress should be benchmarked against International standards, to let
Indian MSMEs rub shoulders with the best and brightest MSMEs in the World.
thThis is precisely what the 6 National Cluster Summit 2013 at New Delhi on September 30 – October 1, has
set out to achieve through its brainstorming panel discussions, illuminating key speakers, vibrant networking
opportunites, dynamic Cluster Championship and kaizen Awards, Kaizen Gallery and the presence of a captive
audience profile eager to learn from Case studies and thought leadership.

Indo - German Manager Training Programme - Scaling New Heights
CII-AVANTHA Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs has a remarkably successful engagement with Germany, in
association with GIZ in the Indo-German Manager Training Programme. It enables participants from SMEs to gain
hands-on training in Germany. It is meant to give them access to some of the best SMEs in the world and to give them
exposure on how to do business with Germany. The number of JVs formed or exports or manufacturing capacity
created on both sides has encouraged Government to sign an extension and spread the programme across sectors
like Health care, Mining and Energy.
The year 2013 has become a watershed for CII vis a vis the IGMTP, with the scope of the programme growing by leaps
and bounds. Under this programme, in March 2013, already 19 participants have gone to Germany, out of which 5 are
from the sector of Mining. In June 2013 interviews for the selection of candidates for the General batch as well as for
batches of Energy and Health Care took place. Around 40 participants from the General batch and 4 each from Health
Care and Energy are expected to go to Germany in September 2013. In all, as many as 67 participants are expected
to go to Germany, through CII in year 2013, as against 27 in 2012.
The India Leg of training is a vital component of the program where members are pre-seasoned before their travel to
Germany on subjects like HR, TQM, Visa Formalities, Experience sharing by past beneficiaries, etc.
