Apostles Creed.......................................................................................Cyndi AcreeI believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer for Illumination...........................................................................Cyndi AcreeLet us pray together.
Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that, as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen
Scripture...........................................Mark 1:4-11...................................Cyndi AcreeAnd so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
Thi s i s t he Word o f God fo r t he peop le o f God . Thanks be to God! Amen!

Church History Thoughts: “Just as water ever seeks and fills the lowest place, so the moment God finds you empty, His glory and power flow in.” Andrew Murray, (1828-1917)“The God who made us can also remake us.” Woodrow Kroll, (1944- ) “God brings us into deep waters not to drown us but to cleanse us.” James Aughey, (1828-1911)“Baptism represents a new identity. It offers motivation and energy to live in a new way.” N.T. Wright, (1948- ) “Jesus will transform you into His likeness. You do the beholding and He does the transforming.” Alad Redpath, (1907-1989)

Epiphany Worship. The sermon series for Epiphany will begin Sunday, January 7th and run through Transfiguration Sunday, February 11 th. The title of this series is Becoming Exceptional: A Christlike View of Greatness. These past few years we have started the new year with a vision session. This year our vision casting is represent in this sermon series. Our hope is that this six-week series will set the tone for 2018 and provide a perspective for us to live into over the entire year.
Epiphany Bible Study. For the Wednesday daytime Bible study will begin on January 3rd and continue through February 7th. This 6-week series is entitled, From Information to Transformation. Our focus is on the approach Jesus uses to reveal His presence to us. Although up-building information is important, the primary way Jesus connects with His people is by changing us from the inside out. This series intends to help people follow through and excel with the New Year resolutions.
Begin 2018 Bible Reading Plan. In addition to the Wednesday daytime Bible study, Mike’s Sunday morning, “Focused 15”, the adult Sunday morning group, and the Children’s Sunday School class are other options for encouraging regular study of the Bible. It’s no coincidence that statistics show thriving churches are communities immersed in Scripture. We believe that by beginning good habits at the start of the year, we can only expect to gain strength as the year unfolds.
