ATTENDANCE POLICY

CREDIT RECOVERY ~ 50-59[SAMPLE LETTER]

Dear Parents:

The mission at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School is to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to achieve success. Your child

is deficient in one or more credits to meet the requirement for HS Graduation. Therefore, we encourage students to attend after-school

sessions to participate in the Credit Recovery (CR) and/or Attendance Recovery (AR) Programs.

CR and AR Sessions will be held on TBA and designated Saturdays. Please note that ALL Credit Recovery courses MUST be completed

by TBA, 2017in order to participate in May 2017 graduation.

It is very imperative that your child take advantage of this opportunity to retrieve the required credits to meet graduation requirements. If

you have any questions or would like to discuss these concerns, please feel free to contact Mr. Young or Mrs. Fredrick.

ATTENDANCE RECOVERY 6 DAYS - SEMESTER CLASS

11 DAYS – YEAR – LONG CLASS[SAMPLE LETTER]

The school year consists of 180 days. High school students, regardless of grade level, may lose credit when they exceed five (5)

absences in a 90-day semester course, and ten (10) absences in a 180-day (year-long) course.

A student will not receive credit if he or she exceeds the number of allowable absences. Students who exceeds the allowable

number of days, will receive an FA (failure due to excessive absences), and an FA will be recorded on his or her transcript.

Attendance Recovery (AR) Program Guidelines

Attendance Recovery (AR) is a means to recover credit lost from excessive absences during the school year. Attendance Recovery is

offered on scheduled weekdays, and Saturdays (AR schedule will be provided at the end of each semester).

Only absences in the prior semester of the same school year can be recovered and all AR must be completed within 30 days of the

end of that semester. If the attendance is not made up by the 30th day, the grade of FA will carry no Carnegie units but will be

factored into the student’s GPA as a 51.
