PARISH MINISTRIES AND ACTIVITIES
JARED BLAKE
On behalf of myself and all the parishioners let me express my gratitude to Jared Blake for his decade of service to the St. Eulalia community and specifically to the youth of the parish. It was Jesus who said, “When I was hungry you gave me to eat, when I was thirsty you gave me to drink…for whatsoever you do to the least ones, you do it to me.” Jared has shown to the youth of the parish the importance of this gospel imperative. Under his direction he has brought youth to serve in the Christian Heart Camp which is a work camp assisting those in need and has also led an initiative to bring youth on a monthly basis to serve suppers at the Cor Unum Meal Center in Lawrence. To help the youth to see the face of Jesus in our less fortunate brothers and sisters is a core way of preaching the gospel and a core component of Catholic youth ministry.
We are also grateful for the ways he has helped the youth to laugh and enjoy each other’s company, for supporting those who were struggling and reaching out to parents helping them in their role as moms and dads.
Even though Jared is resigning as the Youth Minister at St. Eulalia, he has offered to stay involved with St. Eulalia Parish enabling any of the parish youth who wish to do so to participate in the Catholic Heart Camp. Information will be forthcoming. In the very near future and after the 50th anni-versary Mass is behind us we will have an opportunity to publically thank Jared.
A NOTE FROM JARED BLAKE, YOUTH MINISTER
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
After ten wonderful years, I have decided to resign as Youth Minister at St. Eulalia Parish. It is hard to leave a parish and community that have given me so much love and support over the years, but I feel that this is the right decision for me. Over the years, I have been blessed to have worked with so many wonderful people in the Arlington and Winchester communi-ties. It is rather difficult to articulate clearly how grateful I am to you and the support you have extended to me over the years.
St. Eulalia Parish will always hold a place in my heart and I want to express my admiration for everyone I’ve met and that I will treasure the relationships we’ve built. Your generosity has me forever indebted to each and every one of you for the per-sonal sacrifices that you’ve made for the youth and to help me in this ministry.
In youth ministry, helping kids build stronger relationships with God is absolutely paramount. I can say with absolute confidence that, as this particular chapter comes to a close, we have truly succeeded in this. It is hard to believe that over 1,000 kids have come through the youth ministry program throughout the past decade. I hope that I have been able to positively improve their lives as they have positively improved mine.
Thank you and God Bless, Jared Blake
CALLING ALL ORIGINAL SAINT EULALIA PARISHIONERS
If you have been a parishioner of Saint Eulalia Church since its beginning in 1966, we would like to invite you to sit in a special re-served section of the church when Cardinal O’Malley comes to celebrate Mass on October 16th at 11 AM. Please give Laura a call at the office (781-729-8220) so that we will know how large of a section we should reserve.
JEAN BAPTISTE CHURCH NEEDS YOUR CHANGE!
Have you gotten a chance to take a look at the bright green cloth covering the clear collection box in the foyer of the church? The colorful cloth is a table cover from the country of Togo. It is draped over the
collection box for Father Nelson’s parish, St. Jean Baptiste, in To-go. Please feel free to drop any donation into the box as you walk into St. Eulalia Church. We welcome any loose change hanging around the house (under the cushions, in your pockets, in the car)! All contributions will be given to Fr. Nelson to help build St. Jean Baptiste Church. We hope to present a check to Fr. Nelson at the end of his stay this summer. Our first goal is $5000 to fund an altar. As of August 20th we have collected $3611. Thank you for your generosity!!!

CAN YOU HELP US?
We need your help. Could you kindly help us keep the church neat by putting the hymnal books back in the rack and the white prayer card in front of them at the end of Mass. Also, if you see any old bulletins or other papers, please put them at the end of the pew or a table at the back of church and we will dispose of them. We would be most appreciative.
THE UNBROKEN WORD
There goes that time thing again; another day seems to be dis-appearing. Have you ever tried just to empty your mind? I mean really do a brain dump of all the clutter we have going on in our day? The worries, tasks, stuff I need to do, conflicts, driving … you know what I mean.
It’s funny though, when something serious comes up, such as illness, an accident, a friend needing help we seem to be able to miraculously reschedule, almost as if time had taken a dif-ferent pace just so we can concentrate on what is important.
One of the lovely things I get to enjoy in my ministry here is being close to the Church. Not metaphorically, I mean the physical Church! Even though I don’t get to spend a large amount of time there each day, I can enter late at night after meeting with the teens in the parish and spend a few moments in almost darkness. Those few, precious moments of silence, savoring the Presence of God without the clack of my key-board can take my breath away … and always renews my heart.
We all need a few moments of sacred silence in our days. And the silence does not have to be total quietude, just a few minutes where be listen for that small, still voice beckoning us towards Him.
Next time you don’t have time, just schedule a few minutes for Him on the web, your phone, while at the gym, or take a walk wherever is near to you. If, like me, you spend a goodly amount of time chained to a keyboard, there are many good prayer sites on the web where solitude can break up a busy day … and remind me who is important in my life.
THE LONELY CROSS
Waiting, silently, the Cross dangles from the roof, Hanging, but still welcoming all, Waiting for the sound of love to be proclaimed, By the organist, silent prayers or spoken liturgy.
All thoughts and sounds are welcome.
