Women Growing In Christ is hosting a special Advent celebration on December 14th. All Women of our parish are invited to join us for a talk on Mary by Father Tomasz.
Fr. Tomasz’s Weekly Reflection How do we imagine our future, not necessarily the temporal, but above all, the future after our departure, after our death? How do the authors of the Bible see this? What does Jesus Christ promise? How do we perceive it?
Many questions can be asked, many predictions put forward, but it just so happens that we Christians have access to the answers, to the Truth. The readings this Sunday introduce us to this topic, give us a sneak peak at what awaits us, how to proceed, what to avoid, how to prepare ourselves. We are encouraged to reflect on the truths about the last things: death, judgment, heaven, purgatory and hell. Even the liturgy tells us about the "Lord's Day" when Christ will return "in glory to judge the living and the dead." The judgment on each individual is held at the end of our earthly pilgrimage. Does it mean that the experience of death is our own personal end of the world? Because, after all, we seem to do every-thing in order to save our lives.
The prophet Malachi, who opens his considerations with a short but blunt text, warns us about pride and harming others. He brings our attention to the two elements, fire and light, which he connects with the announcement of judgment at the end of the world. The only protection for us followers is to love God and worship His Name.
The Gospel of today also gives us answers to the questions regarding the end. Jesus' words dispel all doubts about what, how and when it will be, and at the same time explain how to act and how to be ready for it. To all who believe in him, Christ promises: “Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.” (Lk 21:14-15)
The main message from today’s Word is that perseverance in faith will save us. We should also remember that Jesus says: “but not a hair on your head will be destroyed,” and not allow fear to enter our lives. Our lives so marked by suffering and pain, make sense through the promise of Christ. If we trust in it, the most important thing, the internal alignment with God, may have already happened in us, and we are more participants in the world to come, than this one. After all Jesus said: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life.” (Jn 5:24) It does not say that one day he will have eternal life, but that he already has it.
To live in Christ is to live forever. Herod's Temple was ruined and was never rebuilt again. The temple of the body of Christ was destroyed on Good Friday, but on the third day in the morning, when it was still dark, Mary Magdalene saw it again, rebuilt in glory.
