ROLL OUT THE BARRELS: The Dodgers continue their
seven-game Midwest swing (2-2) with the first of three games in
Milwaukee against the Brewers. Los Angeles opened the trip by
splitting four games in St. Louis, including yesterday’s finale, a
2-0 loss. Following the weekend in Wisconsin, the Dodgers will
return to Los Angeles to open a six-game homestand against the
Nationals and Reds.
The Dodgers and Brewers are meeting for the first time
this year after Los Angeles won the 2016 season series,
5-2, including a 2-1 mark at Miller Park. The Brewers
will make their only trip of the season to Dodger Stadium
for a three-game series Aug. 25-27.
Despite being in third place in the ultra-competitive NL
West, the Dodgers’ 33 wins are tied for the fourth most
in the Majors, behind only the Astros (38), Rockies (34)
and Diamondbacks (34).
The Dodgers lead the National League with a +84 run
differential, six behind the Astros (+90) for the MLB
lead. Los Angeles’ +84 run differential is its third best
through 55 games since moving west in 1958, behind
only the 1974 (+140) and 2009 (+88) clubs (Source:
Stats, LLC).
A-MAY-ZING: Congratulations to Alex Wood and Cody
Bellinger, who earlier today were named winners of the National
League’s May Pitcher and Rookie of the Month, respectively:
Alex Wood went 5-0 with a 1.27 ERA (4 ER/28.1 IP) in
his five May starts, ending the month with a run of 25.1
scoreless innings – the longest streak in the Majors this
year. He led the NL in ERA (min. 25.0 IP) and wins (T-
1st), while striking out 41 in 28.1 innings. It’s Wood’s
first-career monthly award, and the first Pitcher of the
Month for a Dodger since Clayton Kershaw in May
2016. Wood has been on the DL since Monday with left
SC joint inflammation.
Cody Bellinger completed his first full month in the
Majors with nine homers (T-4th, MLB) and 27 RBI (2nd,
MLB) in 28 games, tying Joc Pederson (May 2015) and
James Loney (Sept. 2007) for the Dodger franchise
rookie record for homers in a calendar month. His RBI
total tied for the third highest among Dodger rookies,
with Dick Cox (Aug. 1925), behind only Loney (32,
Sept. 2007) and Del Bissonette (29, June 1928). In
addition to homers and RBI, Bellinger led NL rookies in
hits (26) and runs (22), to become the first Dodger to win
the award since Corey Seager in June 2016.
PARTY ON: The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation’s Blue
Diamond Gala is less than a week away – Thursday, June 8 at
Dodger Stadium – featuring a private benefit concert with
Maroon 5 and Earth, Wind & Wire. For tickets and more
information, please visit Dodgers.com/Gala.
#VOTE BLUE: MLB has revealed its first All-Star balloting
update, with Corey Seager leading all NL shortstops in his bid
for a second consecutive selection to the Midsummer Classic.
Were he to win the vote, Seager would be the first Dodger
shortstop to earn a starting assignment in the All-Star Game since
Bill Russell in 1980. Yasmani Grandal (5th), Justin Turner
(3rd) and Yasiel Puig (14th) were also among the leaders at their
respective positions. Fans are encouraged to #VoteBlue at
Dodgers.com/Vote.
WATCHING HISTORY: Clayton Kershaw will make the
275th start of the career and enters tonight’s game just four
