Reflexive Verbs

• A reflexive verb is a verb that has an object which is the same as the subject of the verb ==> the action of the reflexive verb is something one is doing to or for oneself.  Some verbs are always reflexive, others are not. 

• Dictionary – indicated by the word: s.

Reflexive Pronouns

• When the reflexive pronoun functions grammatically as the direct object, it would be in the accusative case.

• Example:

• Du kämmst dich…

• (You comb yourself…)

• Subject Verb Direct Object

• There are times when the dative case is required, rather than the accusative.

• I am buying myself a new car.

• In the above sentence, what person or thing is the direct object?

Reflexive Verbs

• The direct object is “car.”
