European Union funding: 400,000 euros, starting Jan 2004

1. Aim: To facilitate comparative studies of tropical forest plots ACROSS Amazonian countries in

(i) forest dynamics; (ii) tree biodiversity; (iii) carbon and water cycling

3. Production of training manuals in above, and translation into Portuguese, Spanish, French

4. Funding of at least 8 PAN-AMAZONIA FELLOWSHIPS (two years with funds for travel and fieldwork) for South American students

Teachers from UFPa and ULBRA are using LBA results to update high school textbooks. Preparation of booklets, videos and CDs are also planned for elementary school students.

Team: 3 students of RHAE/LBA (2 ITI e 1 DTI), trainees and volunteers from physics, biology and pedagogy.
