Pueblo Indians

An Overview on the Indians

Geography The early pueblo people resided in an area known as Mesa Verde. This region was located in an area of the southwest known as “Four corners” because it’s where Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona meet. In later history, the Pueblo people would go on to make settlements in most of the United Sates’ southwest region.

People

Pueblo means "town" or "village" in Spanish, and was originally used to refer to the Indian cliff dwellings and large adobe house complexes of the Southwestern Indian tribes. Today, the word "Pueblo" is also used to refer to these tribes themselves. There are many different Pueblo tribes, including the Acoma, Cochiti, Isleta, Jemez, Laguna, Nambe, Picuris, Pojoaque, Sandia, San Felipe, Santa Ana, Santo Domingo, San Ildefonso, San Juan, Santa Clara, Taos, Tesuque, Ysleta del Sur, Zia, and Zuni.
