THEPRESIDENT’SROLEBethechiefadvocateoftheschool’smissionThePresidentmustbeavisionaryandstrategicleaderwhoembraces,articulates,andpromotesColumbia’smissionofprovidingaChrist-centerededucationfocusedonexcellenceinfaith,character,andacademicsbothinternallyandexternally.ThePresidentwillreachbeyondthebordersoftheschooltoconveythemissiontoalumni,parents,grandparents,andfriendsinthegreaterPortlandcommunity,theregion,andbeyond.

PlacethehighestpriorityonleadingstudentstoknowandloveGod,developaChristianworldview,andrecognizeanddeveloptheirGod-giventalentsThePresidentwillensurethateverydimensionoftheschoolfromtheacademiccurriculumtotheextracurricularprogramsaredesigned,evaluated,andcontinuallyimprovedtoprovidestudentswithastrongfoundationforChristianfaithandtoequipthemtousetheirGod-givengiftsforlife-longChristianleadershipandservice.

CultivateacohesiveleadershipteamandanexcellentfacultyandstaffThePresidentisresponsibleforthedevelopmentofadynamic,visionary,andexcellence-orientedleadershipteamthatincludesthePrincipal,VicePrincipal,anddepartmentdirectors.S/Hemustbeacollaborativeleaderwhowillforgestrongrelationshipswiththeleadershipteamandschoolfamily.Togetherwiththeleadershipteam,thePresidentwillmaintainandimprovestaffandteacherexcellencethroughacarefulrecruitingprocess,traininginChristianworldview,andfaculty/staffdevelopment.

ServeasacompellingspokespersonforColumbiaChristianSchoolswithintheCCScommunityandbeyondAsthepublicfaceofColumbiaChristianSchools,thepresidentservesasambassadortotheChristiancommunityandbeyondandmusteffectivelytelltheCCSstorytoawidevarietyofaudiences,includingschoolfamilies,alumni,currentandpotentialdonors,areachurchmembers,andcommunityleaders.

LeadeffortstoenhanceandimplementthestrategicplanThepresidentisresponsibleforimplementingtheschool’sstrategicplanandworkingwiththeboardtoupdateitannuallyandre-envisioniteverythreetofiveyears.Thestrategicplanwillguidethenear-andlong-termfutureofthecampus,identifyingandnourishingareasofexcellenceandestablishingprioritiesforimprovementofprograms,policies,practices,andfacilitiestopromotetheacademicandChristianmissionoftheschool.

ManagetheSchool’sfinancesandresourcesThePresidentmustusebudgetandfiscalmanagementskillstooverseeschoolpropertiesandprograms.S/Hewillrecommendanannualbudgettotheboardforincomefromtuition,fees,propertyrentals,fundraising,andotherrevenuestreamsandforexpenditurestocarryouttheschoolmissionandmaintainaffordabilityforstudents.ThePresidentoverseesschoolinvestmentsandmaintenanceofcampusfacilitiesandrentalpropertiesacquiredinthepurchaseoftheformerCascadeCollegecampus.

Cultivateandsolicitdonorstoexpandtheschool’sfinancialbaseThePresidentisresponsibleforincreasingtheschool’sdonorbaseandraisingfundstosupportCCS’soperationalandcapitalneedsandtoexpandtheendowment.S/Hewilldevelopandnurturemeaningfulrelationshipswithkeyalumniandpotentialbenefactors,engaginginfundraisingeffortsandconnectingbenefactorstothemissionandprogramsoftheschool.S/HewillworkcloselywiththeDevelopmentDirectorandSchoolBoardtoidentify,cultivate,andsolicitdonors.

GrowandstrengthenColumbiaChristian’sdiversecommunityandcultureofinclusiveness.ThePresidentwillembracestudentsandfamiliesfromdiverseexperiences,backgrounds,andperspectivesandwillworktocreateandmaintainawelcomingenvironmentthatenablestheschooltoachieveitsmissionamongallitsstudents.

EXPECTATIONSANDREQUIREMENTSChristianCommitment

CCS’snextpresidentmusthaveamatureandabidingrelationshipwithJesusChristandwillbeamemberingoodstandinginalocalcongregationoftheChurchesofChrist.ThepreferredcandidatewillbeabletoeffectivelyarticulatehisorherfaithandaworldviewconsistentwithCCS’sStatementofFaithandwilldemonstratepersonalfaiththroughalifemarkedbyastrongChristiancharacterandapassionforlivingouthisorherfaithdaily.

ProfessionalExpectationsCCS’snextpresidentwillarticulateanddemonstrateacallingforworkinChristianeducationandacommitmenttotheintegrationoffaithandlearning.HeorshewillsupportCCS’sMission,FaithStatement,andEducationPhilosophy,aswellasallpoliciesandproceduresestablishedbytheCCSboard.

Strongleadershipskillsarerequired.Experienceineducationalleadershipispreferred,orthecandidatemustdemonstratecommitmenttolisten,learn,andaddresstheparticularchallenges,needs,andrequirementsofaneducationalinstitution.Thepreferredcandidatewilldemonstrateexistingordevelopingstrengthsinstrategicplanning,financialmanagementandbudgeting,andmarketing.

ThepreferredcandidatewilldemonstrateacommitmenttostudyandunderstandCCS’shistoryanddistinctivenessinordertomovetheorganizationtowardsasuccessfulfutureconsistentwithitshistoricalcharacter.

EducationalRequirementsThepresidentwillhaveamaster'sdegreeorhigher,preferablyineducationalleadershiporsimilarfieldofstudy,fromanaccreditedChristiancollegeoruniversity.

FAITHSTATEMENTColumbiaChristianSchoolisassociatedwiththeChurchesofChristandisguidedbytheHolyBible,particularlyChrist’steachingsintheNewTestament.ColumbiaChristianSchoolsacceptsthefollowingasthecoreofChristianfaith.

1. ThereisoneGod,eternallyexistentinthreepersons:theFather,creatorandsustainerofallthatis;theSon,existingfrometernityastheWord,whobecameamanbeingbornofavirgin,livedalifeofsinlessperfection,confirmedhiswordbymiracles,diedforoursins,rosefromthedead,ascendedintoheavenwherehereignsasLordandKing,andwillcomeagaininjudgment;theHolySpirit,giventoallbelieversastheindwelling,sanctifyingpresenceofGod.

EDUCATIONALPHILOSOPHY

ColumbiaChristianSchoolsbelieveseducationisanopportunitytodemonstrateloveforGod.AsJesusinstructshisdisciples,humansaretoloveGodwithalloftheirminds,aswellastheirhearts,soulsandstrength(Matthew22:37).

TheeducationGoddesires,furthermore,isaneducationsteepedintruthandthefearoftheLord.ScriptureinstructshumansthatthefearoftheLordisthebeginningofwisdom(Proverbs1:7),andJesusdeclares,“Iamtheway,thetruthandthelife”(John.14:6).

ColumbiaChristianSchoolscentersitscurriculum,therefore,aroundBibleclassesatalllevelsandanintegrationofscripturaltruthinallsubjects.

Further,ColumbiaChristianbelievesacompleteeducationprovidesstudentsnotonlyknowledgebutalsothetoolstoacquireknowledge,thetoolsoflearning.Inthiscase,ColumbiaChristianinstructsstudentsincriticalthinkingthroughreading,writing,analyticalassignments,andclassroomdiscussions.
