EATING HABITS

PRESENTED BY:

UNIT SUMMARYIn this health unit, students learn the

importance of planning and developing good eating habits. Students learn eating manners and how to categories eating habits within each category. They also learn about diseases caused by bad eating habits and most importantly, they learn how choosing healthy eating habits will effect their growth and learning. Students create their own slideshow, presentation to show how they make healthy food choices and ways to be healthy.

AGRADE/LEVEL4-6 (Age 9-12) time lineThis project starts in August and ends in May.

CURRICULUM FRAMING QUESTIONS.ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: How many times do you eat meal? What do you eat at meal?

UNIT QUESTIONS: What do you eat? How should you eat?

CONTENT QUESTIONS: What are bad eating habits? Which diseases do we get by bad eating habits? Which are the essential ways to develop good eating habits?

PRESENTATION OF TOPICShow presentation and publication to the students on project in hand and brief them about all aspects of the project with activities they are going to do.

day 2: discussion (45 minutes)

Play video of an eating boy in different manners. Discuss about students’ favorite food and ways of eating and provide students discussion questionnaire . Divide class in two groups and give them a task to discuss good and bad eating habits. Show presentation and publication to the students on project in hand. By compilation of data evaluate them by communication checklist.

Day 3: Survey ( 1 hour 10 minutes )

Grouping: Divide students in groups of five and allocate the classes and sections. Provide survey sheet for survey and give brief description about it.

At recess, ask students to survey and have a close look at students’ eating habits in their assigned areas. By compilation of data evaluate survey’s participants by communication checklist.

Day 4: Drawing (45 minutes )Ask students to draw posters what they have observed at break in survey on good and bad eating habits. By compilation of data evaluate students creativity by using creative checklist.

Day 5: Visit of Hospital ( 1 day )

Visit P.F Hospital Masroor at Children Ward and get information of stomach diseases with Questionnaire and after collecting information get specialist opinion from doctor on duty. By compilation of data evaluate the students by interview checklist.

Day 6: Visit of Restaurant ( 1 day )Visit Village Restaurant and ask students to

observe hygiene, seating and table manners using Questionnaire. Get information about eating manners from the Manager of Restaurant. By compilation of data evaluate them by using Research interview checklist.

Day 7: Research on line tools ( 1 hour 30 minutes )

Involve them in a research work in computer lab. Guide them to generate self account, using websites and collecting required content. Let the students work on internet using Handout. By compilation of data evaluate the students by proving research checklist.

PERFORMANCE AT SEMINAR

Day 8: Seminar ( 1 hour 30 minutes ) Engage the students in making strategies for

seminar in which they discuss how they are going to present the collected information.

Engage them in conducting Seminar in which they discuss good and bad habits, diseases caused by bad eating habits, treatment by the doctor, the ways of developing good eating habits and how to improve table manners. By compilation of data evaluate them by Performance checklist.

Day 9: Social Impact ( 45 minutes )

Guide students for resurvey and engage them to find out the impact of the project on the society after providing awareness on eating habits.

Day 10: Wiki ( 3 days 45 minutes per day )

Engage them in generating Wiki through internet and share their views or work with others and ask for comments. By compilation of data evaluate them by Blog checklist.
