Ultrasound technology!
USM -200 Measurement Principle The physics is based on local oscillation. The transmission and reflection of the oscillation varies with the weight or thickness of the material. The oscillation is being measured by a special sensing system and evaluated by a high speed microcontroller. For ease of explanation it can be assumed that the oscillation amplitude is inversely proportional to the surface density. As an additional performance characteristic, the relative measurement accuracy remains constant with decreasing thickness, resulting in a higher absolute accuracy.

USM -200 – Ultrasound System Resulting from an intensive R&D program, MeSys is proud to introduce a new method
of weight and thickness measurement of thin films (patented) The measurement range of this method is 0 – 800 gsm (0 – 800 microns) with an
accuracy of 0,5 percent of the measured value. The USM-200 system is designed for non-contact traversing measurement of thin
material layers in industrial process and quality control applications. It can be used for different kinds of material such as paper, plastics, aluminum, multi
layers … With the USM-200, MeSys provides a weight / thickness measurement device for web
widths up to 12 meters (13,3 yards). Very high web and traversing speeds are enabled by a scanning frequency of 120 measurements per second.
The streak resolution is 5mm. Via a special evaluation method, even the smallest production variations can be identified. In measurement mode, the gap between transmitter and receiver is > 20mm (standard is 40mm) and is much larger than comparable measurement systems.
The USM-200 is also very tolerant to pass line variations.
