PRAKATA PREFACE

Sejak ditubuhkan pada tahun 1967, PersatuanGeologi Malaysia merupakan penyumbang utama dalammeningkatkan ilmu dalam bidang geosains pada tahapkebangsaan dan serantau. Persatuan telah menganjurkanpelbagai seminar dan persidangan dan menyalurkan kertaskerja yang dibentang semasa perjumpaan tersebut untukditerbitkan dalam siri Buletin Persatuan Geologi Malaysia.

Buletin 53 ini mengandungi 19 kertas kerja yangdiperolehi daripada penyelidikan asas dan gunaan sertakajian dasar dalam bidang geosains. Lima kertas kerjatelah dibentangkan semasa Persidangan GeosainsKebangsaan 2006 yang dianjurkan pada 12-13 Jun diPetaling Jaya, Selangor. Empat belas kertas kerja adalahdaripada pembentangan semasa Persidangan GeosainsKebangsaan 2007, yang dianjurkan pada 8-9 Jun 2007 diUniversiti Malaysia Sabah.

Persatuan mengucapkan ribuan terima kasih kepadapenulis yang menyumbang kertas kerja, pengulas yangsudi meluangan masa untuk memperbaiki sumbangantersebut dan jawatankuasa penganjur yang telahmenyelaraskan penerbitan kertas kerja dalam siri Buletinini.

Since its establishment in 1967, the GeologicalSociety of Malaysia has been a major contributor to theadvancement of knowledge in the geosciences at thenational and regional levels. The Society has organisednumerous seminars and conferences and channeled papersfrom these meetings to its series on Bulletin of theGeological Society of Malaysia.

Bulletin 53 is a collection of 19 papers based onbasic, applied and policy research on geoscience. Fivepapers were presented at the National GeoscienceConference 2006, held on 12-13 June in Petaling Jaya,Selangor. Fourteen are from National GeoscienceConference 2007, held at Universiti Malaysia Sabah on8-9 June 2007.

The Society gratefully acknowledges all the authorsfor their contributions, the reviewers for making time toimprove the contributions and the organising committeeof the two conferences for facilitating publication of thepapers.
