“the Coast’s weather is unrivalled in Europe, enabling residents and visitors to enjoy excellent outdoor living throughout the year”
The enduring appeal of living on the Costa del Sol has
never been a mystery. For discerning people seeking
a new home, or holiday residence, away from chilly
northern climes, the Coast’s weather is unrivalled in
Europe, enabling residents and visitors to enjoy excel-
lent outdoor living throughout the year.
But that is just part of the story of the Sun Coast’s
pre-eminence as a welcoming home away from home
for buyers from all parts of the globe.
Spain joined the European Union in 1986 and over the
past two decades the Costa del Sol’s infrastructure
has been radically transformed, becoming among the
most sophisticated and advanced in Europe, including
a state-of-the-art new terminal and recently complet-
ed second runway at Málaga international airport; a
dual-system coastal highway and tollway between
the Coast’s eastern and western extremities (meaning
motorists can travel from one end to the other without
passing a traffic light); and a high-speed rail network
to Madrid (less than two and a half hours) and other
Spanish major cities. In addition, families are well ca-
tered for with an excellent choice of highly-regarded
international schools.
Costa del SolChic contemporary living… and the allure of traditional Mediterranean charm
Also popularly known as the “Costa del Golf”, the
Costa del Sol is home to the highest concentration of
golf courses in Spain, more than 60, including such
venerable clubs as Valderrama (venue for the 1997
Ryder Cup) and Las Brisas (host for the 1973 and
1989 World Cups).
For those not yet bitten by the golfing bug, the
area also offers an extensive and varied choice of
other sporting amenities, from the sedate to the more
vigorous: horse-riding, mountain hiking, tennis,
paddle tennis, lawn bowls, cricket, rugby, water-skiing,
rafting and ballooning, with the famous Sierra Nevada
ski pistes just a two-hour drive away.
“Also popularly known as the “Costa del Golf ”, the Costa del Sol is home to the highest concentration of golf courses in Spain”
“The Costa del Sol is renowned both for its traditional Mediterranean cuisine and its fusion of international gastronomy”
During summer, at the Coast’s luxury beach clubs it
is not uncommon to find a visiting celebrity relaxing
on a sunbed near yours, checking out the latest col-
lections at Puerto Banús’s chic boutiques, or savour-
ing a cocktail in Marbella’s über-fashionable bars and
nightclubs.
Or enjoying a picture-postcard al fresco lunch or din-
ner by the sea… The Costa del Sol is renowned both
for its traditional Mediterranean cuisine and its fu-
sion of international gastronomy, from Michelin-star
restaurants to tapas bars, and beach chiringuitos to
inland ventas.
The Coast is also the ideal base from which to explore
Málaga’s quaint white villages and Andalucia’s cultur-
ally diverse historic cities (Sevilla, Granada, Córdoba),
as well as being Europe’s main gateway to the exotic
attractions of northern Africa.

Golden MileRegal splendour in a venerable luxury setting
A sumptuous tree-lined boulevard linking Marbella city and Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile is one of the Costa del Sol’s most iconic landmarks – and most prestigious residential addresses.Actually closer to four miles (six kilometres), the area’s glamorous past dates to 1946, when Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe acquired the Finca Santa Margarita estate and con-verted it into his private residence, later to become a playground for the rich and famous: the Marbella Club Hotel. On the other side of the road is, arguably, the most opulent “residence” in southern Spain, the King Fahd Palace, holiday retreat of the Saudi Arabian royal family and entourage.Lavish luxury villas abound in the area surrounding the palace, extending all the way down to the main road and along the coastal promenade between Marbella and the sybaritic pleasures of Banús, then back up into Nueva Andalucía and the “Golf Valley” at the west-ern end of the Golden Mile.
