MODELING AND ANALYSIS

OBJECTIVE :

Find the maximum deflection and the maximum stress for the plate

subjected to uniform pressure on the plane surface.

PROBLEM STATEMENT :

A square plate having dimension of the 500 mm x 500 mm is

subjected to pressure of 2 Mpa on one of it’s plane and it’s 4

edge are simply supported.

Find the stresses and deflection for

(1) without any hole at centre

(2) with circular hole with 200 mm diameter at centre

(3) with square hole having dimension of the

500 mm x 500 mm

PROCEDURE

1 . PROCEDURE FOR THE SQUARE PLATE:

Creating a square plate using hypermesh

1. Set user profile as radioss or as optistruct

2. Create nodes

3. Produce surface of 500 x 500

Creating mesh

- Select 2D/automesh

- Select surface and provide size of the mesh then click create

Create materials

- Click on materials icon

- Provide name /colour

- Type – isotropic

- Card image – MAT1

- Then create edit

Properties

- Create edit – provide thickness of the plate

- Two times return

Create component

Define load collector

- Pressure as a first load collector

- Spc as second load collector

- Right click on the load collector pressure and select make

current

- Then BCs create pressure

- As a same way right click on the load collector spc and select

make current

- Create constraint

Create load step

- Select SPC as spc and FORCE as pressure

- After creating a load step select analysis/optistruct

- Save file

- Select export option as ALL , run option as ANALYSIS , memory

option as memory default

- And click on optistruct

RESULT :

Result view

- Open hyper view and open model

- Select contour icon and provide a name of the result

Displacement

Mag

- Then apply

- result type –element stresses

vonmises

- it gives result of the stress produced in plate

2 . PROCEDURE FOR THE SQUARE PLATE WITH CIRCULAR HOLE:

Creating a square plate with circular hole using hypermesh

4. Set user profile as radioss or as optistruct

5. Create nodes

6. Produce surface of 500x500 having central hole of 200 mm

diameter

Creating mesh

- Select 2D/automesh

Analytical procedure to find displacement for the plate without hole :

Wmax =0.00406*qa4/D , D =Et3/12(1-v2)

Where,

W = displacement in mm v = passion ratio = 0.3

q = pressure = 2 Mpa E = modulus of elasticity in Mpa =210 Gpa

a = side of square = 500 mm

t = thickness of plate = 20 mm Wmax = 3.29 mm
