Observations from my office0Building is depressing and nothing from the outside
appearance made me want to go in. There isn’t any signage to represent who we are, however there are all kinds of rules posted on the front doors. No smoking, no firearms, go somewhere else for an application, etc.
0 Inside appearance is tacky, paint scheme is tacky, fluorescent lighting, polished concrete floor, drab cubicle colors, less than desirable cubicle layout.
0People inside do not seem enthusiastic about their work or their working environment.
Insights and Hidden Opportunities
0 Removing the tacky rule signs from the front door and adding some signs that represent our department would be beneficial
0 Correcting the paint color schemes on the walls could positively impact mood
0 Adding some different structure to the cubicle configuration could add some structure and contrast.
0 Taller cubicle walls could be put in the main area and that area could be used as a communication station.
Store Observations0 Stores like Barnes and Noble create a warm and inviting
environment
0 Specialize in a niche
0 Softly lit with warm colors on the walls
0 Comfortable chairs
0 Smell of coffee
0 Coffee shop
More Store Observations
0Big Box stores create more of a one stop shop, get in and get out environment
0 Parking lot and front entrance generally a mess
0All different types of people and lots of them
0 Inside the store, generally clean but all of the traffic can create somewhat of a less clean environment
Insights and Hidden Opportunities
0Barnes and Noble: Layout, they use the entire mid-section for promotional & clearance and then children’s section, splitting the rest of the book store in half.
0Meijer: Store space is bigger than needed, causing things to appear spread far apart and the store to look bare on the general merchandise side. Also, the pet section has a stand alone fish tank right next to the food department. Tacky
Neighborhood Observations
0There is a Barber Museum in the center of town, that I never realized was there.
Neighborhood Observation
0There is also a historical landmark train depot, cabooses and mill elevator about 2 blocks from the town center.
