Paul Catherall is one of the country’s leading linocut printmakers, renowned for his clean, bold architectural images.
As well as exhibiting widely he is one of London Transport’s most popular and prolific poster artists, following in an esteemed tradition that stretches back more than a century. His acclaimed ‘Tate Modern’ poster is one of the key exhibits at the Poster Art 150 show currently at the London Transport Museum, which marks a century and a half of London Underground’s greatest designs.
Catherall draws much of his subject matter from the city’s more characterful landmarks, with a broad focus on modernist design and including those whose aesthetics divide opinion, such as the Shard and Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre.
His linocut prints are created entirely by hand in a painstaking relief process that can take several weeks to complete.
Catherall is a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. He was brought up in Coventry and has lived in London since 1989.
