Page 284: Causative verbsA small group of verbs that are about causing something:

Get someone to do something (get + object + infinitive)

Help someone to do somethingHelp + object + infinitiveOR Help someone do somethingHelp + object + base form(same meaning, both are correct)

The infinitive = “to” + base form

Let somebody do something (Let + object + base form)

= Allow/permit somebody to do something(Notice that “allow” and “permit” use the infinitive.)

Make somebody do something(Make + object + base form)

+ force somebody to do something OR cause something to happen(Notice that “force” and “cause” use the infinitive.)

Have somebody do something(Have + subject + base form)

= Give a job to somebody to do.

(I didn’t have time to pick up the kids at school, so I had my friend do it for me.)
