ObituariesJames Stephens Hall
OCEAN CITY – James StephensHall passed away peacefully in hishome in Ocean City, Maryland on June2, 2020 with his daughters at his sideafter fighting a courageous battle withlymphoma.
Born in Baltimore, on Jan. 10, 1952,he was the son of the late Arthur andShirley Hall. He attended Saint Williamof York School and Mount Saint JosephHigh School.
From an early age, Jimmy devel-oped a love of anything with a motor.He enjoyed tinkering in the garage withhis dad and older brother, Greg and be-fore the age of 12 started his own lawnmower repair business. Jimmy enjoyedbuilding go carts and on several occa-sions was brought home by the friendlylocal police officer after finding him try-ing to operate unattended constructionsite equipment. As a young teenager,he worked weekendsand summers in a localgas station and eventu-ally owned several inthe Baltimore area. Jim-my loved to drive fancycars and was particu-larly proud of his firstCorvette. True to form,Jimmy always owned aspeed boat and nothing made him hap-pier than to round up a gang of friendsand family for a day of water skiing onthe Severn River.
In 1983, Jimmy relocated to OceanCity where with his brother, Greg, heco-owned Hall’s Garden Center, ProTrac Go Carts and amusements, and
three Paradise Cove Miniature GolfCourses. He also owned The AlaskaStand on 50th Street which was even-tually sold to become part of what isnow Seacrets parking lot. Always lov-ing another project, Jimmy earned hisreal estate license and enjoyed a suc-cessful career with Coldwell BankerBud Church Realty for over 35 years.For 30 years, Jimmy also owned andoperated Hall’s Lawn Sprinkler Serv-ice and was actively working untilshortly before his death.
In July 1979, Jimmy married CarolAnn Kaskie and had two daughters,Jennifer (1981) and Daniele (1985).Although they later divorced, they con-tinued to spend time together as afamily and always shared holidaysand birthdays especially with theirgrandchildren. One of Jimmy‘s favoritehobbies was to perform magic tricksand he loved nothing more than toshow up at parties as “The Great Hou-dini” to the delight of his guests.
Another of Jimmy‘s many interestswas local politics. In 1987 he won hisfirst race for a seat on the Town ofOcean City Council and served con-secutive terms for over 25 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Jen-nifer Corron (Jimmy), daughter DanieleHaley (Blake) and grandchildren TaylorCorron, Reed Corron and Camden Ha-ley.
He is also survived by five siblings,Barbara Shade, Monica Anthenelli, Bet-sy Harrison (Alfred), Nancy Long (Mich-ael), and Thomas Hall (Cynthia). Hewas predeceased by two siblings, Gre-gory Hall and Amy Laird, his nieceCaitlin Laird and brothers-in-law, JamesAnthenelli and Buddy Laird. Jimmy alsohad 13 nieces and nephews and 17great nieces and nephews.
To honor Jimmy’s generous charac-ter, we ask that in lieu of flowers, dona-tions be made to the University ofMaryland Marlene and Stewart Green-baum Comprehensive Cancer Center,22 S. Greene St. Baltimore, Md. 212-01. A private celebration of Jimmy’s lifewill be held at a later date for familyonly.
Franklyn D. JonesBERLIN – Franklyn D Jones, age
83, died Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at hishome surrounded by his wife, childrenand grandchildren.
He was born on Jan. 29, 1937 to thelate Charles Thomas Jones and AchsahCathell Jones on the family farm in Tay-lorville, Md.
He met his wife, Paula Quillen,when he and his family were buildingher parents new home.It was love at first sightfor both of them. Threeyears later they mar-ried on June 14, 1961and in a few days fromnow they would havecelebrated their 60thwedding anniversary.
Together they had two wonderful chil-dren, Holly Jones Bunting (Robert) andDouglas Alan Jones. Frank was a de-voted and loving grandfather to Christo-pher Bunting, Jessica Bunting, ShelbyJones Bargar (Mark), Kasey Jones-Ma-trona (Matt), and Andrew Jones. He wasan adoring great-grandfather to Claraand Caleb Bargar who lived next door.He is also survived by his former daugh-ter-in-law, Deneen Rayne Jones.
Frank was a United States Army vet-eran, serving from 1960 to 1966 withtwo years active duty in Wertheim, Ger-many near the Berlin Wall. He oftenwould tell his children and grandchildren
about rushing to the wall at night for apotential conflict between the East andWest Germans.
He was a part owner of Jones Broth-ers and with his two brothers built manylocal homes and apartment houses inOcean City before turning totally to farm-ing.
Frank was a 50-year plus memberof Evergreen Masonic Lodge 153 inBerlin and was delighted that morethan 10 of his family members werealso Masons.
Frank had been a member of theWorcester County Farm Bureau andbelonged to Ducks Unlimited. He wasa member of the Taylorville MethodistChurch and Buckingham PresbyterianChurch. He was a very patriotic per-son who loved his country.
He loved holidays with his familyespecially Christmas and Thanksgiv-ing. He always ended all of his familyphone calls with “I love you.” For manyyears, he cooked family breakfasts onSunday for his children and grandchil-dren.
Frank taught his children about hunt-ing, gardening, gun safety, birdwatch-ing, woodworking, animal husbandryand the importance of land conserva-tion. Most importantly he taught hisfamily how to love life, deal with chal-lenges, and how to find success.
Also surviving are siblings, RichardJones(Peggy), Achsah Jarman, Mary-lan Shockley and Kathleen Pruitt. Pre-ceding him in death were brothersPaul Jones, Edwin Jones and DaleJones, and sister Anna Cortese. Hewas lucky to have many wonderfulnephews and nieces and their spous-es.
Special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Scheirerand Dr. Rene Desmaris for their tenderand continuous care during Frank’s ill-ness.
A Masonic Memorial and MilitaryHonors graveside service private forthe family will be held. ChristopherBunting, Frank’s grandson, will be con-ducting the service assisted by ShelbyBarger, Jessica Bunting, Kasey Jones-Matrona and Andrew Jones.
