“The virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel.”
Matthew 1:18-24
Mateo 1, 18-24
From the Pastor’s Desk Del Escritorio del Pastor
Dear parishioners and friends:
“Joseph, Son of David, Do Not Be Afraid”
Believe it or not, Christmas is one week away!
Are you ready? That is a question we frequently hear
this time of year. One person who I think was not
ready for the First Christmas was St. Joseph, and we
hear his story in the Gospel this weekend. When we
think of the Annunciation we always think of Our
Blessed Mother Mary and the appearance of the
Archangel Gabriel to her. But in the Gospel of
Matthew we also have an Annunciation to Joseph, and
that is what we hear in this week’s Gospel.
“Joseph...do not be afraid to take Mary, your wife, into
your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this
child has been conceived in her. She is to bear a son
and you are to name him Jesus.” (Mt. 1:18-24). There
is a painting by a Frenchman by the name of James
Tissot that depicts a worried and concerned Joseph.
The painting’s title says it all: “The Anxiety of
Joseph.” It is easy to forget that Mary and Joseph were
human. They had worries and fears and anxieties like
you and I do. Can you imagine Joseph’s thoughts on
hearing that the young woman he is betrothed to is
already expecting a child? Can you imagine Mary’s
thoughts feeling the life a child within her? They both
must have thought: “Am I ready for this? Am I faithful
enough, good enough, trusting enough?” No doubt
they had more than a few sleepless nights. None of us
can imagine and experience the fears and anxieties of
Mary and Joseph, but all of us have our own fears and
anxieties. You have wondered “how can I deal with
this situation in my life? Can I get through this?” “How
can I handle this?” In the midst of your confusion
listen to the Angels in your heart and soul saying to
you “Do Not Be Afraid.” When our world is turning
upside down we cannot forget to trust that God will
make it right. Christmas is a week away. In the midst
of this busy week take some time to pause by the
manger in the church or in your home and listen to the
Angel of God say to you: “Do not be afraid, a Savior is
born for you, the Lord God is with you in the midst of
your fears and worries.”
May God Bless you and your family throughout this
Christmas Season, Father Vince
Queridos feligreses y amigos:
mana. "José ... no tengas miedo de llevar a María, tu
esposa, a tu casa.
Ella dará a luz
diciéndoles "no tengáis miedo".
preocupaciones".

commanded him and took his wife into his home.”

anything in return. Striving to put God first in all things
and follow Him wherever He may led us. As His Stewards
we prepare for the birth of our Lord, pray for the strength

Thank you to our Kindergarten for a wonderful presentation of
the story of St. Nicholas and song at Mass. Students enjoyed
celebrating his feast day with the traditional treat of candy in a
shoe, spreading the message that gifts are meant to be shared!
Camden Catholic seniors, Sarah Robbins and Maura Gallagher, who participate in the
Camden Catholic High School's Leadership Academy Program, visited our
Girl Power-Discovering the Leader in You middle school elective class. Our students
learned leadership qualities and skills through activities and discussions. This elective
teaches and develops leadership skills for students to use in all areas of life.
