CE = % C + % Mn/6 + (% Cr + % Mo + % V) /5 + (% Ni + % Cu)/15
5.2.2.2 When trace elements are not shown on the carbon steel MTR the CE is defined asfollows and shall be less than 0.04%:
CE = % C + % Mn/6
5.2.3 All carbon steel butt welds greater than 9.5 mm, that are exposed to sour service, shall bePWHT. For butt welds of pipe with wall thickness less than 9.5 mm, PWHT is not requiredif the weldment is hardness tested to be 22 HRC or less as required by NACE MR-0175latest edition. Testing shall include the filler, the HAZ (both sides) and the base material(both sides).
All carbon steel fillet welds, that are exposed to sour service, shall be PHWT if theweldment is hardness tested to be greater than 22 HRC or if the weld meets the criteria forPWHT as defined by ASME B31.3 Section 331.1.3.
PWHT of carbon steel materials shall be at a minimum temperature of 620oC for a holdtime of one hour per inch of nominal wall thickness, or a minimum total hold time of onehour. After post weld heat treatment, the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) shall not exceed 22HRC for low carbon steel materials.
5.2.4 All welds shall preheat to a minimum of 38oC.
5.2.5 Threaded connections shall only be used where allowed by the appropriate pipe class andthen only where socket weld connections are impractical.
5.2.6 Slip – on flanges shall not be used.
5.2.7 Inspection, Testing and Repairs
5.2.7.1 No welding or welded attachments shall be allowed after PWHT.
