By: Lauren Which colony would you pick to live in the new world? I would pick the Middle colony.

The Geography of the Middle colonies

• The geography has rich soil that is good for farming. They have much rockier soil than their neighbors. The rivers and lakes are good for imports and exports (ex. Lake Erie was good for transportation).

The Climate of the Middle Colonies

• The climate of the Middle Colony is not hot or cold. It is humid.

Colonies in the middle region

• New York

• Maryland

• Delaware

• New Jersey

• Pennsylvania

Religion in the middle colonies

• There is no dominate church in the colony.

• There is a mixture of religions.

Reason why each colony was settled

• Delaware- Trade and profits

• New York- trade and profits

• Maryland- religious freedom for Catholics

• New Jersey- trade and profits

• Pennsylvania- Religious freedom for Quakers and trade and profits

Food in the middle colonies

• The middle colonies had fertile soil so they can grow various crops including wheat and corn. They sold so much they were called “the Breadbasket Colony.”

Education in the middle colonies

• Education was very important in the middle colonies because they believed everyone should be able to read the bible. But they didn’t use books like ours they used a hornbook. Girls stayed home and learned common house chores while boys went to school then college.

Entertainment and play

• They go to common, make music, and kids played games like tag, hopscotch, marbles, and hide-and-seek.
