Next March, Qantas will launch the rst non-stop passenger service from London Heathrow to Australia, covering the
14,498km (9,008 miles) to Perth in Western Australia in about 17 hours on a new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
This groundbreaking service will not only make aviation history but also cuts out the need for time-consuming stops, and makes Perth more accessible as the perfect portal to Western Australia and beyond.
Qantas customers will also bene t from the new Perth gateway, with a combined domestic and international terminal in one location, plus new Qantas lounges in London and Perth.
The capital of Western Australia is maturing into a top international attraction . Hotels, including the new COMO The Treasury, have added six-star opulence to Perth’s centre, while the boutique Alex Hotel, which opened in 2015 close to the bars in Northbridge, will delight fashionistas
with its modish minimalism. Beyond central Perth, harbourside Fremantle continues to attract visitors to its colonial heritage and bohemian charm. A short ferry ride away, the urban pace drops to a dawdle on Rottnest Island, with its endearing native quokkas – friendly, cat-sized marsupials – and beaches lapped by the Indian Ocean. Inland, Swan Valley’s vineyards beckon wine fans.
Yet Perth is merely the starting point . A three-hour drive south of the city, coastal Margaret River is one of the continent’s most scenic regions, that also produces more than 15 per cent of Australia’s premium wine from only 3 per cent of its grapes, making it a draw for lovers of New World wine.
Extending a road trip inland and further south, at Manjimup gourmands will
