OCTOBER 2009
Following our last report on how Caleb is be-ing taken to the next level, a number of new and exciting initiatives have taken place. New Board of Trustees For some time, we have been conscious of needing a team of people to help us take Caleb to the next level. After lots of prayer and discussions, we are delighted to tell you that Pastors Paul Houiellebecq and Gary Spencer have agreed to come on board and serve the vision for at least a year. Both these guys have much rich experience and spiritual insight and are already bringing invaluable wisdom on many fronts that is helping to take the vision forward. Please pray for direction and guidance as we meet together on a regu-lar basis. The Purpose and Vision Document In order to communicate our heart and vision to a wider audience, we have realised the need for a detailed document that spells out what Caleb Ministries is and what it can offer to the Body of Christ. After much editing by the trustees and with our daughter, Hannah’s graphic design skills, the document is now ready to go to print. It covers who we are, gives an overview of our vision, objectives and values; describes the courses we can offer leaders, churches and ministries; gives a financial breakdown of what is needed to buy and run the Kingdom Life Centre and introduces our board of
Trustees and Council of Reference. We be-lieve that the Lord will use this tool to inform, inspire and generate the much needed prayer and financial support we currently need. If you know of a Christian leader, church, ministry or fund that may be inter-ested in receiving a copy, please contact us. Possible Caleb Kingdom Life Centre (CKLC) Trustee Paul recently spotted an ideal 12 acre property for the CKLC while trawling through an estate agent’s website. It will take a financial miracle to buy it, but the Lord is our source and through obedience we obtain the promises. Once a property such as this one has been obtained, the ministry will go into a whole new league and be able to offer Kingdom focused, residential experiences and courses, bringing healing, transforma-tions, equipping and releasing to many lives and a much needed Kingdom life centre for all churches and ministries to enjoy. Please join us in fervent prayer as we seek to raise the capital needed to buy such a property.
The current farm that’s up for sale—a
possible CKLC? Please pray!

The more I read the teachings of Jesus and the practices of the early
Church as described in the New Testament, the more I realise that the
ways of the Kingdom of God are so opposite to those practiced by the
world—and even many segments of the Church. No where is this
more evident than in the ways we leaders conceive of our role in
leading God’s people.
The world’s systems of government and commerce have been rooted
in a Greek mentality of educational prowess. As such, one climbs the hierarchical ladder by gaining academic success; performing better
and thus gaining positional authority within the hierarchy. People refer
to (and are often under the control of) their ’boss’ or ’superior’ and
serve out of duty and possible fear of consequences. Jesus’ method of
leadership was so opposite to these worldly methods. He said:
The first become last and the last first (Matt19:30)
The humble are exalted and the exalted humbled (1 Pet 5:5-6).
The weak are strong and the strong weak (2 Cor. 13:9).
For Jesus, the mark of a true leader was to be the servant of all. He
implied that the only way to get ahead in the kingdom is by
facilitating, serving and lifting others up (Matt. 23:11), not by
hoarding power out of fear of losing control. Such a heart is granted
spiritually relational authority which is so much more effective,
influential and empowering than positional authority.
It is quite clear from His teachings that His Kingdom operates in a
very different, ‘upside-down’ manner to the world’s kingdom.
Here are a few more verses illustrating the ‘Upside-down’ Kingdom :
The rich are impoverished and the poor are wealthy (2 Cor. 8:9).
The wise are foolish and the foolish confound the wise (1 Cor. 1:27).
Death comes from life and holding on to life brings death (Mat
10:39).
By giving you receive and by hoarding you lose (Luke 6:38).
Even the world’s business success analysts are stumbling upon these
Biblical principles of how to lead in a manner which brings the best
out of people. Jim Collins wrote:
“The leaders who are most effective are not the most dynamic
personalities but are those who are more quiet, less assuming and
humble. They are successful because they empower, release and exalt
others rather than themselves. Such leadership is less personality
dependant and the businesses flourish because of it. Often this form of
leadership makes the difference between a good company and one that
is great.”
May we all cast off the stereotypical leadership role that is often aloof,
intimidating and controlling for a more servant-hearted, Biblical one
that aims to so equip the saints that we become ‘redundant’ (Eph 4:11-
12). Jesus washed His disciples feet as a mark of true servant-
leadership; He exhorted His disciples to do the same. Such a servant
attitude is still required of us all who claim to be leaders. People
follow, grow and love such leaders Are you up for the challenge?

Caleb Consultancies continues to go from strength to strength and we are now working with two church/ministries, with another one considering asking us to help them. The latest addition was The Jericho Founda-tion—a Christian charity that aims to re-habilitate and train people so that they can gain employment. The main area that they asked us to help with last April, was in the area of re-defining their Christian ethos. Six months later, they are now much clearer regarding how to incorporate their Christian foundational heart with modern, socially acceptable methodology. It has been a blessing getting to know the heart of this ministry and the lovely people and staff that help run it.
Providence Church in the Rhondda have begun their outreach vision to their local area having received much needed healing, restoring and equipping ministry. Their focus is upon reaching young parents through running a children’s and youth ministry. They are now into their second month of outreach and have had over 40 kids and parents come along regularly to their gatherings. An Alpha course for the parents is planned to begin in a couple of months. Please pray for these two church/ministries that they will continue to go from strength to strength.
Update on the Progress of Caleb Consultancies
For some time, we have been feeling the Lord’s promptings to become more pro-active in fa-
cilitating the formation and deepening of relationships between the Christian leaders in given
regions. Accordingly, last June we began in our ‘Jerusalem’ by inviting the leaders located in
the Rhondda Valleys to a series of monthly breakfast seminars. Meeting in a pleasant hotel, the
2 hour morning sessions begin with breakfast, and fellowship followed by a practically relevant
focus-on-leadership seminar presented by Caleb Ministries. An interactive questions and an-
swers session brings the morning to a close and we have had some very encouraging comments.
So much so, that following the 3 month pilot period, it was unanimously decided to extend
these sessions for a whole year. We aim to start other Saturday morning seminars in other re-
gions and cities in the future. Get in touch with us if you are interested in attending one.
