InNX,youconstruct3Dpartsandusethemtogenerate2Ddrawingsand3Dassemblies.

NXisFeatureBased.Featuresareshapesthatarecombinedtobuildapart.Youcanmodifytheseshapesindividually.

Mostofthefeaturesaresketch-based.Asketchisa2Dprofileandcanbeextruded,revolved,orsweptalongapathtoconstructfeatures.

NXisparametricinnature.Youcanspecifystandardparametersbetweentheelementsofapart.Changingtheseparameterschangesthesizeandshapeofthepart.Forexample,seethedesignofthebodyofaflangebeforeandaftermodifyingtheparametersofitsfeatures

HometabinSketchTaskenvironmentThis ribbon tab contains all the sketch tools. It is available in a separate environmentcalled Sketch Task environment. The Sketch Task environment is activated when youactivateaFeaturemodelingtoolandclickonaplanarfaceorDatumplane.

ToolstabThisribbontabcontainsthetoolstocreateexpressions,partfamilies,movies,fasteners.

RendertabThisribbontabcontainsthetoolstogeneratephotorealisticimages.

ApplicationtabThisribbontabcontainsthetoolstostartdifferentapplicationssuchasAssemblies,SheetMetal,Drafting,andsoon.

AssembliestabThis tab contains the tools to construct an assembly. It is available in the Assemblytemplate.

DraftingenvironmentribbonIntheDraftingEnvironment,youcangenerateorthographicviewsofthe3Dmodel.Theribbontabsinthisenvironmentcontaintoolstogenerate2Ddrawings.

SheetMetalribbonThetoolsinthisribbonareusedtoconstructsheetmetalcomponents.

Sometabsarenotvisiblebydefault.Todisplayaparticulartab,right-clickontheribbonandselectitfromthelistdisplayed.

YoucanalsoaddaribbontabbyopeningtheCustomizedialog.Clickthedownarrowlocatedatthebottomrightcorneroftheribbon,andselectCustomize.OntheCustomizedialog,clickondifferenttabandselect/deselecttheoptions.

RibbonGroupsandMoreGalleriesThetoolsonaribbonarearrangedinvariousgroupsdependingupontheiruse.EachgrouphasaMoreGallery,whichcontainadditionaltools.

Youcanaddmoretoolstoaribbongroupbyclickingthearrowlocatedatthebottomrightcornerofagroup.

TopBorderBarThisisavailablebelowtheribbon.Itconsistsofalltheoptionstofiltertheobjectsthatcanbeselectedfromthegraphicswindow.

MenuMenuislocatedontheTopBorderBar.Itconsistsofvariousoptions(menutitles).Whenyouclickonamenutitle,adrop-downappears.Youcanselecttherequiredoptionfromthisdrop-down.

StatusbarThisisavailablebelowthegraphicswindow.Itdisplaysthepromptsandtheactiontakenwhileusingthetools.

ResourceBarThisislocatedattheleftsideofthewindow.ItcontainsallthenavigatorwindowssuchasAssemblyNavigator,ConstraintNavigator,PartNavigator,andsoon.

PartNavigatorContainsthelistofoperationscarriedwhileconstructingapart.

RolesNavigatorTheRolesNavigator(clicktheRolestabontheResourceBar)containsalistofsystemdefaultandindustryspecificroles.Aroleisasetoftoolsandribbontabscustomizedforaspecificapplication.Forexample,theCAMExpressrolecanbeusedforperformingmanufacturingoperations.ThistextbookusestheDefaultrole.

UnderConstrainedsketch:Additionaldimensionsorconstraintsorbothareneededtocompletelydefinethegeometry.Inthisstate,youcandragthesketchelementstomodifythesketch.Anunderconstrainedsketchelementisinmarooncolor.

OverConstrainedsketch:Inthisstate,anobjecthasconflictingdimensionsorrelationsorboth.Anoverconstrainedsketchentityisgrey.Theoverconstrainingdimensionsareinredcolor.

1. Double-clickonthedimensiondisplayedonthesketch;theDimensioneditboxappears.

2. Tochangethedimensionto100mm,typeanewvalue,andthenpressEnter.3. PressEsctoquittheDimensiontool.

Todisplaytheentirecircleatafullsizeandtocenteritinthegraphicsarea,useoneofthefollowingmethods:

direction,clickReverseDirection buttonintheDirectionsection.Again,clickonittoextrudethesketchinthefrontdirection.

5. EnsurethatBodyTypeinSettingsgroupissettoSolid.

6. ClickOKtoconstructtheextrusion.

Noticethenewfeature,Extrude,inthePartNavigator.

Tomagnifyamodelorchangeitsorientationinthegraphicsarea,youcanusetheOrientationtoolsontheViewtab.

ClickFittodisplaythepartfullsizeinthecurrentwindow.

ClickZoom ,andthendragthepointertodrawarectangle;theareaintherectanglezoomstofillthewindow.
