OBJECTIVES:

RATIONALE FOR NOTEBOOKING• Allows students to:– Process information, learn, and think in

a more engaging way– Demonstrate what they have learned

and provide a better opportunity for remembering information

– Develop more confidence– Self-assess and reflect on their learning

• Notebooks also:– Enhance literacy through various forms of

writing (procedural, narrative, descriptive and labeling)

– Support differentiated learning– Provide a voice for students and increase

achievement

• Notebooks lead to increased student achievement in science, reading and writing (Amaral, Garrison, and Klentschy 2002; Klentschy, and Molina-DeLaTorre 2004)
