Thank YouFor Allowing Me To

Be Here TodayTom Lia

Presently Executive Director, NIFSAB

Thank you also for our 1992 NFPA Illinois Grant

for the Orland Fire Protection District

First real interaction with NFPA beside code issues.

…and while we are at it…

Thank You to our Long Grove FPDChief Dave Grupp

Illinois’ First NFPA 13D Ordinance in 1988

Chief Grupp did it on his own, with no help, and

virtually no reports, documents or research

But he was a special gem working under unique circumstances,

a background of a professional engineer, and a village with no

water supply.

HOW?

The hallmark of a professional in any profession lies in his mastery of the basics.

Basic outreach and educational efforts needed to be conducted throughout Illinois at the

grass roots level.Individuals

Inter Association

Today that Chief and Building Department Director will not be

alone like Chief Grupp.

Base Support• We needed to make a major effort to

determine if there was support, and then reinforce and motivate the base.

Base Support

• I think we have made many assumptions about our base, and while there has been leadership from the major associations, their membership may not have been as enlightened or supportive so we had and have to get back to our roots and make sure the base is with us.
