Greetings, SCHOOL CAPTAINS FOR 2017

I am looking forward to hearing the school leader speeches from our Year 5 students. All the best to everyone involved. It takes a lot of courage to stand in front of an audience and speak. CLASSES FOR 2017

The staffing allocation for our school is dependent on the number of students enrolled at our school. The closer the estimate is to the actual enrolment, the smoother the start to 2017 will be. Please advise the front office if you are leaving Tyalla and your child in Years K-5 will NOT be returning to our school. Thank you for your support with this request. A reminder that Kindergarten enrolments are now being taken. Please contact the office for details. PARKING AROUND TYALLA PRIMARY SCHOOL

I have mentioned the issue of illegal and unsafe parking around our school many times, yet the message is often ignored. The parking restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of students and all other pedestrians, particularly at those times when students are arriving or leaving the school.

Coffs Harbour City Council’s Traffic Ranger has visited our school on several occasions and has had to warn drivers not to stop or park in sign-posted “NO STOPPING” and “NO PARKING” areas. He has also had to warn drivers about stopping in the bus bay area, on Emergency Services driveways and across the school’s driveway. This is of huge concern to the safety of our students going to and from school. Any of these offences carry a fine of over $300 and 3 demerit points on your licence!

Also, a reminder about the school’s pedestrian crossing on Joyce Street. ALL pedestrians must cross between the dotted lines. To walk outside them is considered to be ‘jay walking’ and if noticed, you may be fined accordingly. As a driver on this crossing you must stop and not move your vehicle until all pedestrians are safely on the footpath. It is different to a normal pedestrian crossing and it is most certainly not a place to stop and drop off or pick up your child. Please have a discussion with other people you know and remind them about the crossing and its rules. At the moment the safety of our students and all other pedestrians is being put at risk every day. Please drive with care and consideration. YEAR 2 TO YEAR 3 BUS APPLICATIONS

If your child is in Year 2 this year and they have a bus pass, you will need to update their details at apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updatedetails for their bus pass for Year 3. Not all children that hold a bus pass in Year 2 will be eligible for a bus pass in Year 3. This is determined by your proximity to the school. Please do this before the end of this school year as the form needs to be printed and handed to the school office to be sent to Transport NSW.

The application process has changed and we do not have application forms at school any more. You will need to go online or call 131 500 to update details for a bus pass. If your child has never held a bus pass and you wish to apply for one, you need to go to transportnsw.info/school-students or call 131 500. All children who catch the school bus must have a bus pass or they need to pay the bus fare. If you have any questions about the bus pass process please see the ladies in the office.

Have a great week.

P&C NEWS

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our school canteen needs your help! The canteen needs volunteers every afternoon. If you are able to give a hand, even one day a month, this will make a big difference. Please see Hallie or email the P&C on tyallap&c@iinet.net.au.

Please feel free to email the P&C any time with your ideas, feedback and any help you are able to give the school.

We are also looking for some dads to help cook the BBQ at this year’s Tyalla Carols night. It would be lovely to have a few dads come forward so we can share the work around evenly and enable everyone to still spend some time with their families.

Kellie Hunter (P&C President)

Our canteen needs you!
