Introduction:
You can’t remember why you are in the streets. In your pockets you find just your identity papers and one key: which door will it open and what will you find inside one of the buildings in the city?
You will bargain and you will make promises in order to get the item written in your papers: if you bring it back to your place maybe you could save your story.
You can negotiate, spoil infomations, threaten the other players… not just about what’s happening on the game’s board!
To complicate the game, you can use the additional rule of the handshake.
Negotiators is a board game about your ability to settle pacts, to fulfill them, and to brake them in the right time.
When you play Negotiators you must understand what the other players want from you and what you need to go on.
Number and age of the players:
4-12 players, over 16 years.
Contents of this document:
• Game’s rules.• 1 game’s board (A2 paper).• 12 buildings of the same shape, but with different names.• 12 different items, one for each building and for each character.• 12 keys of the same shape, with different labels, one to each building.• 12 different placeholders, one for each character.• 12 different files, one for each character.• Terms of use.
Every character is related to its key, to its building and to its item (e. g.: lawyer / key to the office / office / contract).Every character has its peculiar abilities and limits.The players should have pen and paper.

Goals:
• You must be the first player coming back to the building related to your character, having the right key and the item related to your character (see identity paper).
• (optional rule of the pact) Before getting to your building, you must shake the hand to one of the players related with you (see the preparatory arrangements). The both of you must have the item and the key related to each character.
Game’s board, buildings, keys and items:
• The board is a map of the city (A2 paper).• Every road is measured in steps.• 12 squares on the map host the 12 buildings. Under the base of each
building you can read its name.• You can get inside a building only if you have the key to it.• Every building is related to an item (e. g.: office / contract).• The telehpone (T) squares let you negotiate in remote.

Characters:
• Each character has a peculiar range of movement (steps), skills and limits as you can read in each identity paper.
• The characters interact to exchange informations, items and keys, negotiating the conditions of each transaction.
• (optional) Every player can make the end-game’s handshake only with the related players (see the preparatory arrangements).
Preparatory arrangements:
1. You must randomly arrange the 12 buildings in the squares of the board.2. You must keep together the 12 items, apart from the players.3. (optional rule of the handshake) Select in secret and write on a paper
(that you will keep secret) the name of the players with whom you will make the end game’s handshake, following the rule nhandshake = nplayers–3:a) if you are 4 players, everyone selects 1 player;b) if you are 5 players, everyone selects 2 players;c) if you are 12 players, everyone selects 9 players.
4. Select your character, randomly picking a placeholder, then take the identity paper.
5. Discard the keys related to the non-playing characters.6. Randomly pick a key, keeping it secret.
If one player picks the key related to its character, all of you must pick again the keys.
7. Place your placeholder on your preferred starting point on the map. Multiple characters can start from the same point.
8. Choose the order for the players to play the game.

Playing the game:
At your turn you can move your placeholder within the range of your character’ steps (see the identity papers).
When you reach a building, check its name, reading it from the base, and keep it secret, then:
a) if you have the key to that building and if you are the first one who is entering in the building, you can take the relative item (see the board).
b) if you don’t have the key to the building, put it back in place on the board;You can take note of the arrangement of the building as you discover them.
When you reach a square occupied by another character you can start a negotiation, if both of you want to do it.When you reach a telephone (T) square you can ask to negotiate with a player at your will, then wait to know if her/he wants to.
Inside the negotiation:1. You can ask questions, answer, lie, keep silent or propose an agreement,
fitting to your character’s abilities and limits (see identity papers).You can question about:a) where the buildings are placed in the map;b) the object and the keys owned by the players;c) the will to trade objects and keys;d) the entity and the condition of the trading;e) (optional) the matchings for the end game’s handshake;f) (optional) the will to make the end game’s handshake.
2. You will answer writing and, anyway, in a confidential way.3. You can take note about your questions and about the given answers.4. (if using the rule of handshake) You must inform the other players as
soon as you will have both the key and the item related to your character.5. (if using the rule of handshake) You can refuse to make the end game’s
handshake only one time.6. (if using the rule of handshake) You can make the end game’s handshake
only with the players selected during the preparatory arrangements and only if they own the key and the item related to their character.
