ducation has gained immense significance in the present era of
growth and development. It is a universally accepted fact that
teachers play a pivotal role in education globally. Good and
effective teachers are therefore required at all levels. There has been a
long debate on the need of procuring good teachers by training but a
consensus has been somewhat reached in the last century that some
training is essential and inevitable, both at pre-service and in-service
levels, for ensuring supply of good and effective teachers for the system
of education. The act of preparing teachers has been assigned to now well-
established discipline of Teacher Education. In our country, this
discipline of Teacher Education is controlled and regulated by National
Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
As a landmark, on 17thAugust 1995, NCTE was established as a
statutory body in pursuance to the National Council for Teacher
Education Act, 1993. The NCTE sets up norms and standards for teacher
education: right from pre-school teacher education to post graduate level
teacher education. NCTE notified revised Regulations and Norms and
Standards on November 28, 2014 for a total of 15 Teacher Education

Programmes (TEPs), including B.Ed. & M.Ed. The curriculum for B.Ed. & M.Ed. was modified and their duration was
changed from one to two years. All teacher education institutions have to comply with norms and standards related to
these 15 programmes with effect from the academic session starting 2015 as these are mandatory. The government has
now declared that, from July 2020 onwards, another programme with the name of Four-year Integrated Teacher Education
Programme (ITEP) will be offered in the field of teacher education throughout the country.
Meanwhile, NCTE, in its 25th year of establishment starting from August 17, 2019, is organizing year round
seminars in all the states through the universities offering teacher education programmes. As a statutory body tasked with
all matters concerning Teacher Education, NCTE has traversed a long and challenging path and the Silver Jubilee
Celebrations are offering an opportunity to reflect upon its journey so far and to plan for the future. This initiative of
NCTE aims to provide platforms for deliberations on current and future challenges and prospects of Indian Teacher
Education. Department of B. Ed. / M. Ed. (IASE), M. J. P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly has been entrusted with the
responsibility of organizing one such seminar in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Consequently, the Department of B. Ed./M. Ed. (IASE), MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly(U.P.) has decided
to organize a national seminar on “Indian Teacher Education: Problems and Prospects” during
April 04-05, 2020.
Rohilkhand University
was established in 1975
as an affiliating
University. Its status
was upgraded to
affiliating-cum-residential University
in 1985. In August 1997, Rohilkhand
University was renamed as Mahatma
Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University.
The University headquarter is located
at Bareilly with its territorial
jurisdiction extending over 09 districts.
The University campus spreads over
206 acres of Land. At present, there are
25 university departments and a total of
537 colleges affiliated to the
University. The University imparts a
number of conventional, professional
and technical programmes from
graduation to doctoral level through its
network of colleges, departments and
institutes. It has, over the period,
emerged as a pioneering institution in
the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Department of B.Ed./M.Ed. (IASE),
(earlier Department of Education), was
established in 1986 in the University
campus with an intake of 10 students of
M.Ed. programme. Since 1995, it is
also offering B. Ed. programme. Since
its inception, the Department continued
to forge ahead for both horizontal and
vertical expansion with consolidation
of research and teaching activities.
Now, this has grown to a premier
institution at national level in the field
of teacher education and research. The
UGC conferred it distinct status of
Department of Research Support
(D.R.S.) under its Special Assistance
Programme (SAP) thrice (in the year
1995, 2001, and in 2007) for promoting
excellence in research in various thrust
areas of education. The department was
upgraded by MHRD as an Institute of
Advanced Studies in Education (IASE)
since 1995. The department was also
accredited A+ Status in the year 2005
by UGC-NAAC. The department has
also been provided ‘Centre for
Excellence’ in disability studies by the
Government of Uttar Pradesh. The
department has a highly qualified and
dedicated faculty of 22 members with
strong corpus of commendable
research orientated published work.
The number of research scholars who
have been conferred the degree of
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) under
this Department exceeds 100 and the
number of students who have qualified
U.G.C.-N.E.T. / J. R. F. is somewhere
around 175 within a short period of
about 30 years.
ABOUT THE CITY
Bareilly is a metro city in the
Northern Indian state of Uttar
Pradesh. The district of Bareilly
(also known as Bans Bareli) was
once part of ancient Panchala
region. Bareilly is centrally
located between Lucknow and
Delhi, and is easily approachable
by train or road route. The airports
near Bareilly are Pantnagar (70
km), Lucknow (about 250 km.),
and Delhi (270 km). Bareilly is
famous for Handicrafts, especially
Zari Zardozi, Wooden furniture,
Bamboo work, and Surma.
The climate at Bareilly during the
month of April happens to be warm
and pleasant. The temperature
ranges between 21ºC to 37ºC.
SIGHT SEEING
Bareilly is very close to Nainital (135 Km.), Jim Corbett National Park (160 Km.), Agra (230 Km.) and Mathura – Vrindavan (225 Km.). The delegates can plan a post conference trip to these places. Suitable assistance and guidance will be provided to willing participants. For willing participants, organizers may arrange tour packages to these places on payment basis.

The participants will be required to bear their own travel expenses. However,
they may seek/get travel assistance from their institutions or other bodies.

processed on advance payment only. The request for accommodation of any type
