1. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
Through the respiratory system, living
things take the oxygen from the air and
eliminate carbon dioxide.
• Oxygen is very important for living
things to live.
• Carbon dioxide, on the contrary, is not
necessary for our health, and our body
eliminates it.
1.1. PARTS OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM:
The respiratory system has two main parts: airway and
lungs.
• Airway: Ducts through which air enters and leaves
our body. They consists of: notrils, pharynx, larynx, thrachea
and bronchi. Bronchi are divided into bronchioles.
• Lungs: The lungs are two spongy and pink organs.
The ribcage protects them. In the lungs gas exchange
occurs: our respiratory system takes air and removes
carbon dioxide.

• Through the respiratory system, living things take the oxygen from the
air and eliminate carbon dioxide.
• The respiratory system has two main parts: airway and lungs.
• There are two main movements of breathing: inhalation and
exhalation.
1.2. HOW WE BREATHE
When we breathe:
1.- The air enters the nose trough the notrils.
2.- The air goes to the pharinx and then to the
larynx.
3.- After that, the air reaches the trachea. It is
divided into two branchi. Both are located into the
lungs.
1.3.RESPIRATORY MOVEMENTS:
There are two main movements of breathing:
inhalation and exhalation.
• Inhalation: Air enters the lung. The lungs
and rib cage expand.
• Exhalation: The air comes out. The lungs
are deflated.

3. Read and choose true or false. Afeter say.
TRUE FALSE
1.- Through the respiratory system, living things take the oxygen from the air and eliminate carbon dioxide.
2.- Oxigen is not very important for living things to live.
3.- In the lungs gas exchange occurs.
4.- The respiratory system has two main parts: airway and lungs.
5.- The air enters the nose trough the pharinx.
6.- In the inhalation movement air enters the lung. The lungs and rib cage expand.
4. Read and order the sentences:
• The air reaches the trachea. It is divided into two branchi. Both are located
into the lungs ______
• The air enters the nose trough the notrils. ______
• The air goes to the pharinx and then to the larynx. ______
5. Write and say the correct respiratory movement.

2. EXCRETORY SYSTEM
Excretion is the process through which
we clean our blood and eliminate waste from
our body. So the body expels the subtances that
our body does not need.
2.1. PARTS OF THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM
The excretory system consists of:
• Kidneys: They are located in the
abdomen. They are bean-shaped and dark red.
• Bladder: Urine flows into the bladder
before being expelled.
• Ureters: Two tubes that connect the
kidneys to the bladder.
• Urethra: The tube that connects the
bladder to the outside.

2.1.1. KIDNEYS
All the blood in our body reaches the
kidneys. The kidneys filter blood and eliminate
waste products as urine. 95% of urine is
water.
Urine leaves the kidneys, travels
through the ureters and reaches the bladder.
There is expelled through the urethra.
2.1.2. SWEAT AND SWEAT GLANDS
Sweat is a liquid that appears when it´s
hot or when we practice physical exercise.
Sweat contains water, mineral salts and waste
products
Sweat glands form sweat and they are
situated in the skin. The sweat glands removes
waste substances, so they are involved in the
excretory system.

3. CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
To perform the function of nutrition blood
carries nutrients, oxygen and waste products.
The circulatory system consists of blood,
blood vessels and heart.

3.1. BLOOD
Blood is the only tissue of our body that is liquid. It
transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide and waste products.
Blood is made of a liquid called plasma and blood cells: red
cells, white cells and platelets.
• Red cells: Red cells carry oxygen and give blood its colour.
• White cells: White cells defend us from disease.
• Platelets: Platelets plug up blood vessels after an injury.
This process is called coagulation.
3.2. BLOOD VESSELS
Blood vessels are types of tubes through which
blood circulates.
There are three types: arteries, veins and capillaries.
• Arteries: The arteries carry blood from the heart.
• Veins: The veins carry blood towards the heart.
• Capillaries: The capillaries connect the arteries
and veins. They carry blood to our organs.

3.3. HEART
The Heart is a muscular organ that
pumps blood throughout the body.
The heart works all our lives, it
doesn´t stop.
It is divided into two halves: right and left,
which are divided by an atrium and a
ventricle.
Blood flows from the atria to the
ventricles thanks to valves.
When we play a sport our heart beats faster
HEART
ANATOMY
3.4. BLOOD CIRCULATION
Circulation is the journey that makes the blood all around the
body through blood vessels.
The heart pumps blood. The heartbeat has two phases:
• Systole: The heart contracts. The blood leaves the heart through
the arteries.
• Diastole: The heart relaxes. The blood, which is carried by the
veins, enters the heart.

3.5. PULMONARY CIRCULATION
It is the journey that makes the blood into the lungs. Thus, the blood picks
up oxygen and removes carbon dioxide.
1. The blood flows from right ventricle to the pulmonary arteries.
2. The blood picks up oxygen in the lungs.
3. The blood returns to the left atrium through the pulmonary veins.

3.6. GENERAL CIRCULATION
The journey that makes the blood throughout
the body. Blood carries oxygen to all body parts.
1.The blood leaves the left ventricle by the aorta.
2.The blood goes through all the organs of the
body carrying oxygen and nutrients.
3.The blood returns to the right atrium through the
vena cava.
Veins carry blood back to the heart.
The heart is a muscular organ that pumps to every part
of our body
Arteries carry blood and nutrients from our heart to all parts
of our body.
Capillaries connect the arteries and veins. They carry
blood to our organs.
