This is an error in the rulebook. Vigilance can be used at the end of any enemy action (not only a
movement action as indicated in the rulebook).

The unit can remain Vigilant (using it's entire activiation) or can conduct actions normally (in which case
the unit would no longer be Vigilant).

No, as Vigilant shooting is resolved at the end of the enemy's action (correction from the rulebook, this
should not be movement but rather action), they are already in contact and cannot be shot at - although
the charging unit could use thrown weapons, as that happens before movement into contact.
Traits - Natural vs. Random (rulebook, p.39)
Remember that selecting the natural talent for a troop type is an extra 5pts over the cost of the talent
itself. You are limited to two talents total - at 5pts each --- with +5pts if you select the natural talent. For
example, selecting a natural talent only would be 5pts for the talent +5pts for selecting the natural
talent for 10pts total vs. selection two random talents at 5pts each for a total of 10pts.
How far can models (from both sides) move into contact when continuing to fight a melee?

Models can use their regular movement value when moving models into contact during a continuation

When 2 hidden markers come into spotting range then they are both turned over, even if they are both
dummies.
For regular troops to form a firing line is it a separate activation or just ending a movement in base to

To form a firing line you just have to end your movement in the correct formation see page 32, so its
not an extra activation (well other then moving but you know what is meant).
In the British list p.42 the light infantry haven't got the light infantry trait so presumably can't do a

British Light troops dont have the firing line trait so they cant form one.
If you are using Hidden Movement Markers with a mixture of Elite and Non-Elite Units, do you have to

As stated on page 14 a hidden movement marker only represents a unit type (or is a dummy marker).
You choose when it is revealed (for whatever reason) what unit of that type to deploy at that time. A
"strict" interpretation of this rule: "From now on, this marker will move instead of the unit. Hidden
movement markers always have a Movement of 6" and the "Scouts" Trait. They are activated at the
same time as all units of the Troop Type the display." Until the marker is revealed it is just a marker for
the troop type and does not have any Traits other than Scouts as detailed above --- therefore a marker is
never Elite and does not move on a Forward Boys! card.
If you wipe out a unit with Tomahawks that you were intending to charge, can you then charge a
different unit instead, assuming that you have enough movement?

Yes, they can move into contact another unit as the shooting is resolved before movement.
Remember pistols provide a melee bonus (rulebook, p.28)
Model that has not shot with their pistol gets a +1 to their attack roll on the first round of melee.
Remember Officers in regards to shooting and hits (rulebook, p.39)
Officers cannot be targeted if they are within 4" of a friendly unit (unless they are the closest target) and
if killed you may instead remove a friendly model within 2" (that unit takes the casuality and any
resulting reaction test).

You can target any valid enemy unit (does not have to be the one that you engage in melee ... there is
no "charge" declaration and necessity to pre-declare who you are engaging prior to movement into
contact) - just remember that thrown weapons by themselves (only) will not trigger a reaction test.
There are normally no long range penalties when shooting at a Firing Line, but if the action takes
place at night should there be a modifier of some sort to allow for the darkness? It seems a little odd
that a Firing Line is just as easy to hit in the dark as it is in broad daylight.

The "penalty" here is built into the spotting component of the game. Shooting at a firing line does not
suffer a long range penalty (page 33) -- "When shooting at a Firing Line, due to the mass that the unit
represents, enemy units do not suffer the -1 penalty for shooting at Long Range, should this modifier
apply."
Can a unit spot/shoot entirely through a wood? (http://studiotomahawk.freeforums.org/firing-

This is mostly down to how you and your opponent agree the terrain on your board is going to work
exactly before the game. Page 24 does carry the wording in the high ground section - "As a rule of
thumb, woods should block the lines of sight even if the observer is on higher ground", so I would say a
likely agreement for a woods could be you may not get line of sight "through" them, only into them.
Fast Target Shooting Modifier Clarification (http://studiotomahawk.freeforums.org/sorting-out-fast-

This only applies to units that have moved 8" or farther in a single action (not activation or turn).
Essentially this only applies to cavalry that is moving while mounted (dismounted cavalry move 4",
which is reflected in the profile for cavalry in the army lists).

There is no strict basing requirement for M&T. It is important to understand the facing of each figure in
a unit (as shooting arc is 180 degrees to the front). Three common basing schemes are:
1. Use square bases, 25mm or 20mm square for 28mm figures, which makes it very easy for
determination of arcs of fire and facing. I would call this the default basing for M&T.
2. Use round bases, 25mm or 20mm round for 28mm figures, which makes it a little harder for
determination of arcs of fire, but can be solved by marking the front of the figure and/or the 180 degree
front arc of the model (or just by using friendly logic).
3. Use a mix, square or multi-figure bases for regulars and use rounds for skirmishers/scouts.
I personally use 25mm rounds (28mm figures) and 40mm rounds for Officers - basing that is similar to
SAGA - but that is personal preference and nothing official.
I'm using 15mm or 18mm figures, should I adjust the measurements in the book to cm or something

It seems many have not adjusted the measurements for the smaller scale and the results of the games
are perfectly acceptable - in that you can use all the same measurements and have very enjoyable
games that make sense.
Is there a benefit in melee for figures that are defending from inside a building? (opinion)
Although not specifically stated in the rules it seems appropriate to grant the defended obstacle bonus
to the troops within the building.

No, engaging in melee ends the activation for the unit (meaning you can only fight a single melee, with
potentially multiple rounds, on a single activation).
What is the difference between action, activation and turn? (rulebook, p.10)
A turn is completed when the card deck has been completed resolved (or by a specific random event).
An activation is when a card is being resolved for a specific unit, for example a unit of regulars is
resolving an activation that consists of two actions. An action is a specific action a unit takes during an
activation such as move, shoot or reload.
Are thrown weapons/one shot weapons used once per game? (rulebook, p.29)
No, thrown weapons/one shot weapons can be used once per turn as described on the top of page 29 in
the rulebook.
Can a forward boys card allow a unit to get more than a single action?

No. A unit can only do a single action on a Forward, boys! card. For example, a unit with the Elite Trait
cannot receive the action granted to an Officer that is within 6" of that Elite unit as that would mean it
would be granted more than a single action for that Forward, boys! activation.
Do units that are defending an obstacle gain the +1 to defence die rolls on all rounds of melee?

Yes. The +1 to the defence die results is applied for each round of melee found so long as the unit
started the melee in the position of defending the obstacle. This should be clarified more as the current
wording on page 21 of the rulebook doesn't explicitly cover multiple rounds of melee ... although the
"To claim this bonus the obstacle must be between the attacker and defender" which is more meant to
address facing I think but can also apply to multiple rounds of melee since the models attacking are still
attempting to come over the obstacle.

No. If a unit is at extreme range it will suffer -2 and the long range modifier will not apply (as it is
overridden by the extreme range modifier).

This is a typo and refers to the "End of Turn" option from page 10 of the rulebook (Damocles Sword was

conditions in place."
If after fighting a round of melee, neither side has recoiled, flighted or routed, and they no longer have
any models in contact, do they stop the melee or move into contact and continue fighting?

If both sides have "passed" their reaction tests they will move models into contact and continue fighting
the melee regardless of how many models remained in contact at the end of the round of melee.
For page 43, Colonial Militia is of morale "Regular" - is this correct?

This is a typo, the morale type should be "Militia" and not Regular.
Prior to engaging in melee when thrown weapons are used at what point in the movement can they

Thrown weapons are resolved at the start of movement only (so you cannot move some partial distance
to contact then throw the weapons, it must be done prior to moving).

Although it is common for gamers to apply modifiers to the shooting skill of the unit it is actually
modifying the die result. For each pip between the modified dice roll and the base shooting value of the
unit (for dice results lower than the shooting value), deduct two from the result of the firepower dice.
For example, if the unit's shooting value is 5+ and the shooting modifier is -3, a die result of 6 would hit
(6's always hit), but the modified die result would be 6-3=3. There are two pips between 3 and 5+
(shooting value of the unit), therefore the firepower dice results would be modified down by -4 pips. A
firepower die result of 5 would become a 1 in this case.
Do Auxiliaries get this firing line trait? (rulebook, p.32)
No. The font size in the rule book is smaller and is a typo that makes it look like the Firing Line Trait is a
sub item to the Auxiliaries Trait - this is not the case, Firing Line is a separate and unrelated Trait.
The unit leader is the last to be killed, but why is it important to know which particular figure is the

There are two key reasons to know which figure in a unit is the leader:
1. All figures in the unit must remain within their movement range of the unit leader (see p.12 of the
rulebook).
2. When using hidden movement, upon revealing the hidden marker the unit leader is placed on that
spot and the rest of the unit placed within their movement range of that figure (leader).
On p.40 of the rulebook under "Boats" the third paragraph says, "With some small canoes, it can
happen that a whole unit can be transported in a single boat. In that case, you can buy enough boats

an Officer ..." that suggests fielding Officers are optional. Is this correct?

one Officer ..." - this is not optional - your force is required to field at least a single Officer.
On p.43 of the rulebook under the British army list, the Torries list of options, the Trained option says
"Gains the Light Infantry Trait" - but there is no Light Infantry Trait? (opinion)
This option should refer to the Light Troops Trait (typo).
