The bench’s observation came af-ter the additional solicitor general,Sanjay Jain, submitted that an inter-ministerial Cabinet note is beingprepared on the issue of additionalpolice force in the capital.

“As a judge and as a person, I amvery dejected with the way the mat-ter is dealt (with) by the Centre andauthorities concerned. You all arekilling your people. These very peo-ple elected you. Every day, incidentsof crime are reported against wo-men, child and senior citizen,” Justi-ce B D Ahmed said.

The bench also pulled up the bu-reaucracy, saying what kind of offi-cials were they that they can’t prepa-re a note in six weeks for the Cabinet.

“Even judges write thousand pa-ges judgment, then why can’t theseofficials prepare a three-page note-..what kind of efficiency is this,” thebench asked. The bench asked Cent-re to file an affidavit by the next dateof hearing on whether it has funds tocreate additional force or not andwhether it intends to create the addi-tional force or not. PTI

New Delhi: Parents of the 17-year-old girl who was raped and strang-led are yet to come to terms with thefact that the youth they had shelte-red for so long turned out to be theirtormentor. Rajkumar (22) was ar-rested for not just raping theirdaughter but also murdering theirrelative’s eight-year-old son whohad come to stay with them duringDiwali.

The girl has been battling for herlife at Lady Irwin hospital. Whenshe had tried to resist the rape at-tempt, Rajkumar repeatedly hit her

New Delhi:The driver of a truck car-rying 1,000 mobile phones, along withfour associates, fled with the vehiclein an attempt to make a fortune.Three days after the matter was re-ported by the e-commerce firm whichhad couriered the handsets for delive-ry, police managed to arrest two accu-sed, Sunil Kumar and Shravan.

While cops recovered the stolengoods worth Rs 58 lakh, efforts are onto nab the driver, Lallan Singh.

On November 28, company offici-als informed the police that one oftheir trucks (407 model) carrying1,000 mobile phones of differentbrands went missing on the way tothe airport.

Noida: Police returned to Bi-sada on Wednesday to nab sixmore people accused of beingpart of the mob that lynchedMohammad Akhlaq, but re-turned empty handed as allthe suspects managed to flee.

The six were named byAkhlaq’s daughter Sahista inher statement before a magis-trate on November 26, sourcessaid. But the police took al-most two months since Ak-hlaq’s murder at the hands ofa mob on September 28 to getSahista’s statement recorded,when more urgency couldhave had all the suspects be-hind bars and a chargesheetready by now.

The family had initiallynamed 10 suspects, all ofwhom have been arrested. Sa-hista, police sources said, isthe most important eyewit-ness in the case as she was theonly family member on thefirst floor of the house otherthan Akhlaq and her brotherDanish when the murderousmob stormed in, baying forAkhlaq’s blood because theybelieved he had slaughtered acow and had beef.

New Delhi: A 15-year-old girlhas accused her stepfather of ra-ping her for over a year afterwhich the man was arrestedfrom their residence in southe-ast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar on Tu-esday. The girl is at about two-and-a-half months pregnant,police said.

Her mother had initially ig-nored the girl’s complaints ofmedical issues. But when theproblem persisted she got thegirl checked up.

“After sensing pregnancy,the woman questioned herdaughter but she tried to hidethe matter. However, upon pres-suring the girl opened up andtold her about the rape. The wo-man then informed her friendswho approached the police,” sa-id a senior official.

Amedical examination con-firmed that the girl was preg-nant. “A case of rape and underPOCSO Act was registered aga-inst the accused and he was ar-rested,” the official added.

A senior officer said thatwhile the actual duration of theabuse is not known, initial in-vestigations suggest she was re-peatedly raped for at leastayear.

The girl told police that herstepfather would rape her whenher mother, a housemaid, lefthome for work. She had drop-ped out of school a few yearsago. The man allegedly threate-ned her with death whenevershe resisted his bid. “She was soterrified of her stepfather thatshe never showed signs of abu-se all these months,” said thecop who talked with the survi-vor’s mother.

After separation from herfirst husband, the girl’s motherhad married the accused aro-und seven years ago.

New Delhi: In a significant mo-ve, the Delhi government hasdecided to free 44 life convictswho have spent over 14 years injail, while rejecting the plea offormer Congress leader, SushilSharma, convicted of murde-ring his wife, Naina Sahni, andtrying to burn her body in a tan-door in 1995.

The Sentence ReviewingBoard (SRB), chaired by the Del-hi home minister, Satyendar Ja-in, had received petitions from 50 life convicts, including Sharma, and decided to release44 inmates. LG Najeeb Jung hasgiven his nod to the SRB’s recommendations, a seniorofficial said.

In September this year,Sharma, a former youth Cong-ress leader who is in jail for thepast 20 years, was released onparole by the Delhi high court.While granting him parole, thecourt had said till his plea see-king remission and prematurerelease has been decided by thecompetent authority, he wouldremain out of jail.

“The board has rejected fourapplications for premature rele-ase, including that of Sushil Ku-mar Sharma,” the official said,adding the SRB has deferred de-cision on two cases.

Constituted in 2004, the SRBdecides the pleas of convictsand other related issues. Representatives of Tihar jailand Delhi Police are membersof the board.

“Before taking the decisionon premature release of lifeconvicts, the board examinesthe records of those who havespent over 14 years in jail andwhether they are still a threat tolaw and order,” the official said.PTI
