Definition: A visual arts movement that showed a sense
of optimism usually based on romance and humor. It
took place during the post war (WWII) consumer boom,
it was influenced by mass-media, mass-production and
mass-culture.

Subject matter: Consisted of ordinary iconic and popular
objects. Examples are western movies, science fiction,
comic books, billboards, automobile design,
advertisements (products), items and rock n' roll music.

were iconic or popular in time (pop-culture) , making the art
into something fun and different.

Characteristics: Flat, bold, simple, sharp lines, blocks of
bright colors, sometimes looking like comic books. Pop Art
