MeterSuite - Honeywells Metering Solution
Oil & Gas producers and processors everywhere need
to know accurately the amounts of product going over
the fence, into a pipeline, onto a truck, barge or ship.
Government Tax Authorities need to know becausetheir revenue depends on it. In recent times, many oil &
gas producers, refiners or chemical processors have
used disparate, bespoke systems for such measure-
ments. Todays faster changing and cost constrained
environment requires a new approach to metering; one
that provides all the benefits of a centralized solution
such as commonality and scalability but most of all
improved monitoring, management and reporting pro-
cesses that supplies accurate data to the whole opera-
tion.
MeterSuite Solutions delivered by oil and gas
and metering experts
The key to any successful project in the Oil and Gas
industry is the utilisation of specialist engineers familiar
with the industry and its stringent working practices.
To ensure that Honeywell delivers on its promise of
unrivalled oil and gas expertise we have signed an
exclusive agreement with the UK's leading metering
solution provider, Swinton Technology. Swinton
Technology has been an essential part of the
MeterSuite development team and will be responsible
for delivering metering solutions in partnership with
Honeywell on the Experion platform; providing an unri-
valled combination of leading edge technology and
application expertise.
MeterSuite: The metering function is changing
Several changes in the industry are driving the need for
a better metering solution.
1. Meter smaller streams cost effectively
The oil & gas and downstream industries often need
to meter streams that are relatively small. Accurate
metering of smaller streams such as for allocation
or custody transfer purposes has often been un-
economical until now. Marginal oil fields and exchange
of gas streams to allow more gas recovery, in particu-
lar in mature fields, require lower cost metering, due to
marginal fields and sub-sea tie-backs. Growing multi-
participants and independents in oil operations, as well
as assets changing hands, all require metering of more
streams.
2. A metering technology for the 21st century
The original equipment for existing metering systems is
often reaching end of life. Obsolescence issues have
compounded the situation. The accuracy requirements
of metering systems have for many years required
dedicated flow computers. The original technology
assumptions that accuracy, safe measurement and
reliability required a separate, closed system are no
longer valid. The industry is looking to do more than
like-for-like replacement of dedicated, closed architec-
ture systems. Open technology can now provide
added benefits in a modernized operation. A replace-
ment must therefore provide a forward path of de-
velopment, support, and improvement.
3. More capabilities from new systems
For new installations, the industry is looking for integra-
ted solutions, instead of separate, higher cost dedica-
ted systems. A solution that integrates the metering
function into the control system architecture providesthe basic answer. An added benefit comes from the
cost effectiveness of such a solution, from installation,
simple configuration and support / upgradeability over
the long term.

A full solution for your metering needs
MeterSuite offers you all the components you need,
and the technology you can rely on:
Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) server
Experion user station Flow computing inside the C200 controller
AGA, API and ISO standard calculations libraries
Flexible I/O choices from analog to HART
to
FOUNDATION Fieldbus and others
Start small and scale: add flow metering for a new
stream without adding computing hardware
Metering implementation expertise
Benefits
All capabilities of the Experion platform are
available. One can easily integrate new capabilities tomanage the metering function:
Flexible reporting
Web-based access
Single point of configuration
Advanced Trending
Scale up easily, adding streams to meter
MeterSuite uses the C200 as the flow computer.
Additional flow computing calculations can easily be
configured in the software, linking in new instrument
inputs to results.
Fewer systems to maintain, requiring less
training More functions inside the control system
itself means no external system and custom interface
to maintain. This eliminates a separate database,
configuration, and graphics building effort common
with dedicated metering systems.
Better overall use of the system A standard user
interface encourages users to observe its operation
more closely.
Web access to metering information, across the
enterprise Or between businesses, such as part-
ners in specific fields, with regulator and tax authori-
ties. Having more metering information available
makes it easy to access related information, and allfrom authorized web-page users on your Intranet.
Choice of I/O for metering The C200 controller
supports a wide variety of I/O, from analog, remote
I/O to FOUNDATION Fieldbus and HART, allowing
metering to follow your chosen approach to I/O.
Keep up with business changes The ISO, API
and AGA calculations are loaded into the C200 and
upgradeable, as for any other Experion application.
This allows your metering system to easily keep up
with changing business and regulatory requirements.

Technology and Innovation are increasingly important to the future success of the UK Continental Shelf and we
encourage the use of new solutions like that proposed by Honeywell for Fiscal metering applications. Honeywell'sExperion PKS provides a rich feature-set for trending, reporting, archiving and auditability functions that are
invaluable for everyday process applications and may prove to be equally beneficial as part of a fully integrated
"fiscal" metering solution.
